From our perspective as lovers of Spanish beaches, Playa de Sacaba in Malaga is one of those urban gems that often go unnoticed compared to the more central or famous sandy beaches. However, for us, this stretch of coast represents a fantastic option for those seeking a perfect balance between the convenience of an urban beach and the tranquility needed to disconnect. Located west of the Malaga capital, Sacaba extends for over a kilometer, offering a canvas of dark sand and generally calm waters, bathed by the always generous Andalusian sun.

When we think of an escape to the Malaga coast, we often imagine bustling beaches full of life. And while Malaga has them, Playa de Sacaba offers us a somewhat different experience. It's a beach where the pace is a bit slower, where families find their space, and where sunset walks become an almost sacred ritual. It's an invitation to enjoy the sea without great pretensions, simply letting yourself be carried away by the sea breeze and the sound of the waves. For us, it's a perfect refuge within the city itself.

How to Get to Playa de Sacaba

Getting to Playa de Sacaba is relatively straightforward, given its location within Malaga's urban network. We always recommend exploring the various transport options to choose the one that best suits your needs and preferences.

By Car

If you're coming by car, the beach is accessible via the MA-22 or Avenida de Velázquez, following signs to the city's west area. Once there, you'll find parking zones on the streets adjacent to the promenade. It's important to consider that, especially during high season or on weekends, it can be somewhat more difficult to find parking right next to the beach, so we advise arriving early or being prepared to drive around a bit. There is no underground or exclusive paid parking for the beach, only surface parking.

By Public Transport

The Malaga urban bus network (EMT) offers several lines that will take you close to Playa de Sacaba. Some of the lines that usually pass through the area or have nearby stops include Line 7 (Alameda Principal - Parque Litoral) and Line 40 (Paseo del Parque - Sacaba Beach), among others, which will drop you off a short distance from the sandy beach. It's a comfortable and economical option, ideal for avoiding parking worries. We usually check the EMT app or Google Maps to see the most convenient schedules and stops at any given time.

By Bicycle or on Foot

For sports lovers and those who enjoy walks, Playa de Sacaba is perfectly accessible on foot or by bicycle via the Paseo Marítimo Antonio Banderas. This promenade extends along a good part of Malaga's west coast, offering a pleasant route with sea views. If you're staying in nearby areas, this is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant ways to get there, allowing you to enjoy the landscape and beach atmosphere from the very first moment.

The Sand and Water

When we step onto Playa de Sacaba, the first thing that catches our attention is its sand. It's a dark sand, with a grain we would classify as fine to medium, very pleasant to the touch. It's a sand characteristic of Malaga's beaches, which contrasts wonderfully with the blue of the sea and sky. Unlike the lighter, finer sands of other coasts, this Malaga sand has its own charm and is perfect for lying in the sun or for children to play building sandcastles.

The beach's ground type is, of course, sand, making it very comfortable for walking barefoot. You won't find large rocky or pebble areas in the main bathing zone, which is a plus, especially if you're with children or simply prefer the softness of sand under your feet.

As for the water, Playa de Sacaba is characterized by having generally calm and clean waters. Being a bit further from the hustle and bustle of the center, the feeling of calm is greater. The waves are usually gentle, making it a very safe beach for swimming, even for less experienced swimmers or children. The water temperature in the summer months is very pleasant, inviting long dips and enjoyment of the Mediterranean coolness. We always find immense pleasure in immersing ourselves in these waters, which recharge our energy.

We mention that, as with any urban beach, the water's clarity can vary slightly depending on currents and the number of bathers, but in general, the quality is very good and is constantly monitored to ensure the safety and well-being of all visitors.
