How to Get to Playa de Rusas

Getting to Playa de Rusas is part of the adventure, and although it is not one of those beaches with direct access from a big city's promenade, its relative difficulty of access is precisely what helps preserve its charm and keep it away from overcrowding. We always advise planning the journey well to fully enjoy the experience.

By Car

The most comfortable and practical option to get to Playa de Rusas is undoubtedly by car. From Albuñol, the journey is relatively short and well signposted. We must take the N-340 road towards the coast. The beach is located just east of the town of La Mamola and west of Castell de Ferro. There are turnoffs that will guide us towards the beach area. The coastal road offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean, so the journey itself is already a pleasure. It is important to pay attention to the signs, as the turnoff to the beach can be discreet. We always suggest using a GPS, but also letting oneself be carried away by the beauty of the landscape.

Parking

Once we arrive near the beach, we will find some designated parking areas. Do not expect large, paved parking lots with many spaces, but rather dirt areas to leave the vehicle. In high season, these spaces can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. It is free parking, which is a plus, but we must always be cautious and not leave valuables in sight.

Public Transport

Regarding public transport, Playa de Rusas does not have a direct and regular connection. The bus lines that run along the Granada coast usually stop in larger urban centers like Albuñol, La Mamola, or Castell de Ferro. From there, we would have to consider a taxi or walk a considerable distance, which is not the most advisable under the summer sun. Therefore, our recommendation is a private or rental car to enjoy maximum freedom and comfort.

The Sand and Water

One of the aspects that most catches our attention about Playa de Rusas is the particularity of its surface. Here, we will not find the typical fine, golden sand that characterizes other Andalusian beaches. Instead, its sand type is mixed, composed mainly of medium-sized pebbles and coarser, darker sand. The pebbles, polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves, are pleasant to the touch and, although they may be a bit uncomfortable for walking barefoot at first, once we get used to them, they provide a different and unique sensation. We always advise wearing suitable footwear, like water shoes, for more comfort when entering and exiting the water.

But if there is something that captivates us about Playa de Rusas, it is its waters. They are, without exaggeration, of astonishing clarity. The absence of strong currents and the composition of the seabed, with its mix of sand and rock, contribute to the water remaining clean and transparent. We have had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in them on numerous occasions and have always been surprised by their purity. The color of the sea ranges from deep blue to turquoise, irresistibly inviting a refreshing swim. Furthermore, the waters are usually calm, somewhat protected by the coastal topography, making them ideal for swimmers of all ages.

Temperature and Seabed

The water temperature at Playa de Rusas is typically Mediterranean, pleasant during the summer months and mild in spring and autumn. This allows us to enjoy prolonged swims without feeling excessive cold. The seabed is equally interesting, with sandy areas and others with rocks that harbor rich underwater life. This makes it an excellent place to practice snorkeling, exploring the marine flora and fauna with just a mask and a snorkel. We always prepare to discover the small treasures hidden beneath the surface. The combination of pebbles and the transparency of the water gives Playa de Rusas a very particular identity and a special appeal for those seeking a different beach experience.

Although Playa de Rusas is characterized by its more natural and less urbanized atmosphere, this does not mean it lacks basic services to ensure a
