How to Get to Playa de Psari Forada

We, like most visitors, highly recommend renting a car. Public transport to this area, although it exists in the form of local buses, is not as frequent or direct as to guarantee a comfortable and flexible arrival to a beach with the particular charm of Psari Forada.

From the city of Heraklion, the journey will take us approximately an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic and our speed to enjoy the views. The most common route involves driving east along the coastal road and then taking the turnoff south, passing through picturesque Cretan villages. As we approach the south coast, the roads become more winding, but they are in good condition and gift us with spectacular panoramic views of olive groves, mountains, and finally, the brilliant blue of the Libyan Sea.

Key Directions for the Trip

• From Heraklion: Take the E75 east and then follow signs towards Viannos or the south coast. The signs are usually clear, although it's always useful to have a good GPS or an updated map.
• The Last Stretch: Once we get close to the coastal area, we'll follow the signs to Psari Forada. The last stretch might be on a narrower road, but the destination is well worth the effort. The feeling of arriving at such a serene place after a journey through such diverse landscapes is truly rewarding.
• Parking: At the beach itself or in its vicinity, we find informal parking areas where we can leave our vehicle without major issues. Don't expect large, organized parking lots; the nature of Psari Forada is more rustic and authentic, and that's precisely what makes it so attractive to us.
