How to Get to Playa de Porto Heli

Getting to Playa de Porto Heli is part of the adventure and, fortunately, there are several options to suit our preferences and budget. The Argolida region is well-connected and the journey itself offers spectacular views of the Greek landscape.

By Car

If we're coming from Athens, the drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic. The route is scenic and takes us along well-maintained roads, passing olive groves and small villages. It's an excellent option if we want the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace.

By Bus

The KTEL Argolida bus company offers regular services from Athens (Kifissos Station) to Kranidi, the main town in the region, and from there there are connections or taxis to Porto Heli. It's an economical option and allows us to enjoy the scenery without worrying about driving.

By Ferry or Catamaran

For a faster and more picturesque experience, we can opt for the 'Flying Dolphins' or 'Flying Cats' from Hellenic Seaways from the port of Piraeus in Athens. These high-speed catamarans take us directly to Porto Heli in about 2.5 hours, offering an impressive view of the Saronic Gulf islands during the journey. It's a very popular way to arrive, especially in summer.

By Plane

The nearest international airport is Athens International Airport (ATH). From there, we can rent a car, take a bus, or head to Piraeus to catch a ferry. Some people with access to private jets use the small Porto Heli airstrip for a more exclusive arrival.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Porto Heli captivates us immediately with its combination of sand and the clarity of its waters. The sand is predominantly fine and golden, very pleasant to the touch, ideal for walking barefoot or for children to play building sandcastles. Although mostly sandy, in some sections we can find small polished pebbles, which add an interesting texture and a special shine under the sun.

The waters are, without a doubt, the main attraction. Of an impressive turquoise blue color, they are famous for their transparency and incredible calm, thanks to the natural protection of the bay. They are shallow near the shore, making them perfect for children to play safely and for adults to enjoy a relaxing swim. The sea temperature is very pleasant during the summer months, inviting us to dive in and enjoy hours of coolness. It's a real pleasure to swim in these waters, where visibility is excellent, encouraging us to practice snorkeling and discover marine life.

Services and Facilities

As an established tourist destination, Playa de Porto Heli is very well equipped with a variety of services and facilities designed to ensure our comfort and enjoyment during our stay. Here we find everything we need for a perfect day under the Greek sun.

We can rent sunbeds and umbrellas to relax comfortably by the sea. The beach has showers to wash off the salt and sand after swimming. Along the promenade and in the vicinity, there are numerous chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy an iced coffee, a light snack, or a full meal with sea views. The presence of lifeguards during the high season provides us with additional peace of mind, especially if we're traveling with children.

We also have access to parking, although during the busiest months it can be somewhat limited, so it's advisable to arrive early. For the more active, there are options to rent equipment for water sports, such as windsurf boards or kayaks. Furthermore, the proximity to the town means we have easy access to shops, pharmacies, and other necessities that may arise during our visit to this beautiful Argolida (Peloponnese) beach.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the best time to visit Playa de Porto Heli depends a lot on what we're looking for in our holiday. Each season offers a different experience, although the region enjoys a very pleasant Mediterranean climate for most of the year.

Spring (April-May)

We consider spring one of the best times. The weather is mild and pleasant, ideal for walking and exploring without the intense summer heat. The landscapes are in full bloom, offering a spectacle of colors and aromas. Furthermore, there are fewer tourists, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of the beach and nearby villages. The sea may still be a bit cool for some, but sunny days invite the first dips.

Early Summer (June)

June is a fantastic month. The weather is already warm and the sea is perfectly temperate for swimming.
