Introduction
Welcome, travelers! Today, we, as experts in international beach tourism, want to take you to a place that has stolen our hearts: Playa de Pori on the tiny and charming island of Koufonisia, Greece. Imagine a canvas painted with the most vibrant blues of the Aegean, where the sky merges with a sea so transparent it seems unreal, and a strip of golden sand that invites the sweetest of naps. That, and much more, is Playa de Pori.
Koufonisia, a member of the Lesser Cyclades, is a hidden treasure that has managed to maintain its authenticity and its slow pace, far from the bustle of other larger islands. And in its crown, Pori shines with its own light. It is one of those beaches you see on postcards and think 'that can't be real', until you have it in front of you and realize that reality far surpasses any image. Its crescent shape, protected by gentle hills, makes it a perfect natural refuge, ideal for those seeking both tranquility and scenic beauty.
From the moment we set foot on its sand, a feeling of peace and awe envelops us. The air is clean, the sound of the waves is the only soundtrack, and the view gets lost in the infinite horizon. It is a place to disconnect, to reconnect with nature, and, above all, to create unforgettable memories under the Greek sun. If you are looking for a genuine beach experience, where water quality and the natural environment are the priority, then the Koufonisia beach of Pori is, without a doubt, your next destination. We assure you it will not disappoint.
How to Get to Playa de Pori
Getting to Playa de Pori is part of the adventure and, at the same time, an experience that already immerses us in the charm of Koufonisia. The island itself is accessible mainly by ferry. From the port of Piraeus in Athens, there are regular connections, although the journey can be long (between 5 and 8 hours, depending on the type of ferry). A faster and more popular option is to fly to a nearby island like Naxos or Mykonos, and from there take a shorter ferry to Koufonisia. We always recommend checking schedules in advance, especially in high season, as they can vary.
Once at the port of Koufonisia, in the capital, Chora, we have several options to get to Pori, which is located at the eastern end of the island. The distance is approximately 3.5 to 4 kilometers, making it perfectly accessible.
On Foot
For lovers of walks and panoramic views, getting to Pori on foot is a delight. It is a relatively flat walk along the coast, which takes us through other charming beaches like Fanos and Italida (Platia Pounta). The journey takes about 30-40 minutes and allows us to enjoy the sea breeze and the arid but beautiful landscapes of the Cyclades. We have done it several times and every step is a gift for the senses. It is an excellent way to start the day, before the sun gets too strong.
By Bicycle
Renting a bicycle in Chora is another very popular and eco-friendly option. The island is small and with few steep slopes, making it ideal for exploring on two wheels. The path to Pori is simple and allows us to move at our own pace, stopping wherever we like to take photos or simply admire the landscape. It is a fun and active way to get to the beach, and we highly recommend it.
Local Bus
During the high season (especially from June to September), there is a local bus that connects Chora with the main beaches, including Pori. The schedules are usually frequent and it is a comfortable and economical option, ideal if we prefer to save energy for swimming and sunbathing. The stop is just before the beach, a short walk away.
Water Taxi
For a more picturesque experience, we can opt for a water taxi from the port of Chora. These small boats take us directly to Pori, offering us a different perspective of the coast and a refreshing journey over the turquoise waters. It is a slightly more expensive option, but undoubtedly the most scenic and relaxing. We love this way of arriving when we want to feel on vacation from the first minute!
Whichever method we choose, the path to Playa de Pori is a preview of the beauty that awaits us. Each option has its charm, and all lead us to one of the most magical corners of the Koufonisia beaches.
The Sand and the Water
When we talk about Playa de Pori, it is impossible not to start with its two undisputed protagonists: the sand and the water. Both are, without exaggeration, of exceptional quality and the main reasons why this beach is so celebrated among the Greece beaches.
The Sand
The sand of Pori is a true delight for the feet. It is fine, with a soft golden color that shines under the Greek sun. Its texture is incredibly soft and silky, inviting long barefoot walks along the shore or simply sinking our feet while we relax. There are no annoying pebbles or sharp rocks in the main beach area, making it perfect for all ages, especially for the little ones who can play and build sandcastles without worries. We have spent hours walking along its expanse, feeling the warm sand under our feet, and it is a feeling of pure freedom.
The predominant type of ground is, as we have already said, sand. This contributes to the clarity of the water, as there is no mud or sediment to cloud it. The beach is also quite wide in many of its sections, offering plenty of space for everyone to find their perfect spot, even on the busiest summer days. The cleanliness of the sand is another point to highlight; it is evident that it is cared for and maintained in excele
