How to Get to Playa de Platy

Getting to Playa de Platy is quite simple, making it a very accessible option for any visitor to Lemnos. The beach is located on the west coast of the island, just about 3 kilometers south of Myrina, the capital.

From Myrina

• By car or motorbike: If we rent a vehicle, the journey from Myrina is very short, just about 5-10 minutes. The road is well signposted and access to the beach is direct. Furthermore, near the beach, we will find parking areas to leave the car comfortably, a very important aspect on busier days.
• By taxi: Taxis are a quick and comfortable option from Myrina, especially if we don't want to worry about parking. The cost is reasonable given the short distance.
• By local bus: During the high season, local buses usually operate connecting Myrina with nearby beaches, including Platy. It's an economical option, although the schedules may be less flexible.
• Walking: For the more adventurous or those staying near Myrina, it is possible to walk, although the uphill and downhill sections of some hills can be a bit demanding under the summer sun. The walk offers very pleasant views of the coastal landscape.

From Lemnos Airport (LXS)

The Lemnos International Airport 'Hephaestus' (LXS) is located about 20 kilometers east of Myrina. From there, we can take a taxi directly to Platy or to Myrina and then transfer. If we have rented a car at the airport, the trip to Platy will take us approximately 25-30 minutes.

By Ferry

If we arrive in Lemnos by ferry, we will disembark at the port of Myrina. From the port, the options to get to Platy are the same as from the city of Myrina itself: rental car, taxi, or local bus. The proximity of the port to the beach is a great advantage for those who choose this mode of transport.

Unlike other beaches with pebbles or coarse sand, here we won't have to worry about discomfort, but can instead enjoy the silky sensation under our feet. The predominant 'ground type' is, without a doubt, sand, creating a uniform and welcoming environment for all visitors. Its length, approximately 800 meters, allows you to always find a good spot, even on the busiest days, without feeling crowded.

The Water: Crystal Clear, Calm, and Shallow

The waters of Platy are simply spectacular. Their clarity is such that we can easily see the seabed, inviting us to explore with snorkeling gear or simply enjoy the transparency. But what really makes this beach special, especially for families, is its calm and shallow nature. For many meters from the shore, the water is barely deep, making it extremely safe for young children who can play and splash without risk. The absence of strong currents or large waves contributes to this feeling of safety and calm, allowing us adults to relax while the little ones have fun.

The water temperature in the summer months is pleasantly warm, perfect for a refreshing yet comfortable swim. The combination of fine sand and serene, crystal-clear waters has earned Platy the Blue Flag recognition, a distinction that certifies excellence in water quality, environmental management, and safety.
