How to Get to Playa de Platanias

Getting to Playa de Platanias is surprisingly easy, given its popularity and excellent connection to the city of Chania. We always recommend considering the different transport options to choose the one that best suits your travel style.

By Car

If you've chosen to rent a car, the route from Chania is direct and very comfortable. Take the coastal road heading west, towards Kolymbari. Platanias is about 10-12 kilometers from Chania, and the journey usually takes between 15 and 20 minutes, depending on traffic. You'll find numerous parking lots along the main road that runs through the village of Platanias, many of them associated with the area's hotels and restaurants. Some are paid, while others offer free parking for their customers. It's the option that gives us the most freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace.

By Bus

For those who prefer not to drive, the bus is a fantastic and very efficient alternative. There are regular intercity bus lines (KTEL) connecting Chania with Platanias and other coastal towns to the west. Buses depart very frequently from Chania's central bus station, especially during the high season (May to October). The ticket is inexpensive and the journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes. The stops are well signposted along Platanias's main road, making access to the beach and establishments easy. It's a comfortable and economical way to get to Playa Platanias.

By Taxi or Private Transfer

If you're looking for maximum comfort, especially if traveling with a lot of luggage or in a group, a taxi or private transfer are excellent options. You can easily find taxis in Chania, both at designated stands and by phone or through apps. Prices are reasonable for the distance, and they will drop you off directly at your accommodation or at your preferred point on the beach. Many hotels also offer transfer services to and from the airport or the city of Chania.
