How to get to Playa de Picón

Getting to Playa de Picón is part of the adventure, and we assure you every step is worth it. The most practical and almost indispensable way is by car. From nearby towns like Ortigueira or Mañón itself, you must take the secondary roads that wind along the Loiba coast. We recommend using a GPS, as signage can be scarce in some sections. The most well-known reference point in the area is the famous 'Banco de Loiba', from where you can already sense the majesty of the surroundings.

Once you reach the Loiba cliffs area, you'll find some small informal parking spots, generally on the side of the road. From there, access to the beach is on foot, via a trail that descends down the cliff. This path is steep and, in some sections, can be slippery, especially if it has rained. It is not suitable for people with reduced mobility, baby strollers, or those not accustomed to walking on uneven terrain. Wear comfortable and secure footwear, it's essential for enjoying the descent and ascent!

The sand and water

When stepping onto Playa de Picón, we immediately notice it's not the typical fine, golden sand beach. It's important to emphasize that this parking is not regulated and space availability can be limited, especially in high season. Our recommendation is to come prepared: bring your own food and drink, a towel, sunscreen, and everything you might need to spend a few hours in this idyllic setting. The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Picón will depend on your priorities. If you're looking for the warmest and sunniest weather to enjoy the coast, the summer months, from July to August, are the most recommended. During these months, temperatures are more pleasant and the chances of rain decrease, allowing you to fully enjoy the landscapes and, if the sea permits, a refreshing swim. However, keep in mind that, although it's not a crowded beach, it will attract more visitors at this time of year.

For those who prefer absolute tranquility and a more intimate connection with nature, spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) are magnificent times. The weather can be cooler and the chance of rain greater, but the reward is a beach practically to yourselves. The colors of the vegetation on the cliffs are spectacular, and the light is ideal for photography.
