How to get to Playa de Pefkoulia

Getting to Playa de Pefkoulia is surprisingly simple, which contributes to its popularity. We, as tourism experts, always value ease of access, and Pefkoulia delivers in spades. It is located on the west coast of Lefkada, just 10 kilometers southwest of the capital, Lefkada Town, and very close to the picturesque village of Agios Nikitas.

By car

The most comfortable and flexible way to get there is by car. From Lefkada Town, we just need to follow the main road leading to the west coast. The signage is clear and will guide us directly. The journey is short, about 15-20 minutes, and offers pleasant scenery. Upon arrival, we will find a fairly large and organized parking area, which is a great advantage, especially in high season. Although it can fill up, the turnover is constant and we always find a spot to leave our vehicle. We recommend arriving early in July and August to secure a good spot.

By bus

For those who prefer not to drive, there is the option of public transport. During the summer season, there are regular buses connecting Lefkada Town with Agios Nikitas and other west coast beaches. Pefkoulia has a bus stop on the main road, right above the beach. From there, it's a short walk downhill to the sand. It is an economical alternative, although with less flexible schedules than the car.

From Agios Nikitas

If we are staying in the charming village of Agios Nikitas, we can reach Pefkoulia in a matter of minutes by car or even by bicycle. The proximity is ideal for combining the tranquility of the village with the vibrant energy of the beach.

The sand and the water

Ah, the sand and water of Pefkoulia... they are simply magical! When we think of Greece beaches, we often imagine these hues. Playa de Pefkoulia is distinguished by its extensive stretch of fine, soft sand, of a golden color that shines under the Ionian sun. It is perfect sand for walking barefoot, for children to play building castles, or simply for lying back and feeling its warmth.

The type of ground at the shore is predominantly sand, which makes entering the sea easy and very comfortable for everyone. There are no annoying rocks or sharp pebbles, just the softness of the sand under our feet.

But what really takes our breath away are its waters. The waters of Pefkoulia are a vibrant turquoise blue, so clear and transparent that we can easily see the seabed. They are calm waters, especially on windless days, making them an ideal place for swimming and relaxing. The sea temperature is usually very pleasant during the summer months, inviting long swims and enjoyment of the Aegean freshness. The gentle slope of the shore allows for a gradual entry into the sea, which is much appreciated by families with young children.

• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: The beach has several popular chiringuitos, like the famous 'Monato', offering refreshments, cocktails, snacks and light meals. Some of them also function as restaurants, serving delicious local dishes and international options. The atmosphere is usually relaxed, with soft music and spectacular sea views.
• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: For those seeking maximum comfort, it is possible to rent sunbeds and umbrellas in the organized areas of the beach. This allows us to relax in the shade and enjoy the sun without worrying about bringing our own equipment.
• Parking: As mentioned, there is a large, free parking area right above the beach, making car access easy.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: The chiringuitos usually offer showers to rinse off salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and well-maintained Toilets/WC.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard services, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially for families with children.
