How to Get to Playa de Pefki

Getting to Playa de Pefki is part of the adventure and, fortunately, quite simple. Evia is a privileged island, as it is connected to the Greek mainland by a bridge in the city of Chalkida, which greatly facilitates access. If we are coming from Athens, traveling by car is the most comfortable and picturesque option. It will take us approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, driving on well-maintained roads and enjoying changing landscapes.

Once on Evia, we will head towards the north of the island, following the signs to Pefki. There is also the option of public transport; KTEL buses connect Athens with various towns in Evia, including Pefki, although the schedules may be less flexible. However, to explore the charms of the area at our own pace, we always recommend renting a car. It will allow us to discover hidden coves, picturesque villages, and enjoy the freedom that only your own vehicle can offer in a destination like Playa de Pefki.

The Sand and Water

The experience at Playa de Pefki begins with the sensation under our feet. Here, we won't find the fine, white sand of other Aegean beaches, but a charming mixture of mixed sand with small pebbles polished by the sea. This combination gives it a unique character and a different feel, which some find even more pleasant. The pebbles are small and rounded, making walking barefoot a delight, and they contribute to the incredible clarity of the waters.

And speaking of the water, oh, the water! The waters of Playa de Pefki are a spectacle in themselves. The entry into the sea is gradual, making it an exceptionally safe place for families with young children. One of the great advantages of Playa de Pefki is the wide range of services and facilities it offers, designed to ensure our comfort and enjoyment throughout our stay. As an organized beach, we won't have to worry about anything. Along its extensive 4 kilometers, we will find numerous areas equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas that we can rent for a modest price, perfect for relaxing under the Greek sun.

Furthermore, the beach has showers to refresh ourselves after a swim and clean, accessible bathrooms/WCs. For those of us arriving by car, there are ample parking areas available, often free, along the road that borders the beach. Safety is a priority, with lifeguards monitoring the busiest areas during the high season. And if hunger strikes, there is no shortage of chiringuitos and restaurants right on the beach or very close by, where we can taste delicious local cuisine. For the more active, there are also equipment rental points for water sports and, for the little ones, play areas that include a children's zone.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the right time to visit Playa de Pefki can make a difference in our experience. Like many beaches in Greece, Pefki shines in its own light during the summer months, from June to August. It is the time of maximum splendor, when the sun shines strongly, the water is at the perfect temperature for a prolonged swim, and the beach buzzes with life and a lively atmosphere. However, it is also when the influx of tourists is highest, and the most central areas can be more crowded.

If we prefer a quieter experience, but with equally pleasant weather, the shoulder seasons are ideal. May and early June, as well as September and early October, offer us sunny and warm days, water temperatures still very pleasant, and, best of all, far fewer crowds. It is the perfect time for those seeking relaxation and to enjoy the beauty of the beach in a more serene setting. Winters are mild, but most beach services close and water activities are not possible, although the landscape remains beautiful for walks.
