How to Get to Playa de Patos

Getting to Playa de Patos is relatively easy, which contributes to its popularity. If we are coming from Vigo, the nearest large city, we can take the AG-57 highway, which will get us to Nigrán in just 15-20 minutes. The signs to Panxón or the Playa de Patos itself are clear and will guide us without problems. The ease of access is one of the great advantages of this beach in Nigrán, making it a common destination for both locals and visitors arriving from other parts of Galicia or Spain.

By Car

The car is probably the most comfortable and used option to get to Playa de Patos. From Vigo, as we mentioned, the AG-57 is the main route. If we are coming from the south, from Baiona or Portugal, the PO-325 road will connect us directly to Nigrán and Panxón. Once in the area, we will find several parking options, although during the summer months, especially on weekends, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot. There are paid parking zones and some free areas nearby, although the latter tend to fill up quickly. Our advice is to arrive early if you visit the beach in high season to secure a good spot and avoid the stress of looking for parking.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, there are also options. Several bus lines connect Vigo with Nigrán and Panxón, making stops near the beach. Vitrasa or ATSA routes usually cover this journey, being a sustainable and comfortable alternative to avoid the car and parking. It is advisable to check the updated schedules, as they may vary depending on the season.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Patos welcomes us with an extensive carpet of fine, golden sand, characteristic of the beaches of Pontevedra. It is pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the kids, or simply lying down to sunbathe. The length of the beach, approximately 1500 meters, means that even on the busiest days, we can always find our own little corner of privacy. What really distinguishes the waters of Patos are its waves. Due to its orientation and the configuration of the seabed, it is an ideal spot for practicing water sports, especially surfing. The waves break with a rhythm and size that make them perfect for both beginners looking for their first experiences and more experienced surfers. However, in the areas closer to the shore and on days with a calmer sea, bathing is safe and pleasant for everyone.
