How to Get to Playa de Pachyammos

Getting to Playa de Pachyammos is part of the adventure and, fortunately, a fairly simple one. This charming cove is located in the eastern part of Crete, about 20 kilometers east of the city of Ierapetra and about 40 kilometers south of Agios Nikolaos, two of the most important urban centers in the Lasithi prefecture. We recommend renting a car to get around the island, as it will give you the freedom to explore at your own pace and discover hidden corners.

From Ierapetra

If you're coming from Ierapetra, the route is direct and very picturesque. Take the coastal road heading east. The journey takes approximately 20-25 minutes by car, and the road is in good condition. You'll pass through small villages and enjoy spectacular views of the Libyan Sea. It's a pleasant and straightforward drive, perfect for starting to feel the island's atmosphere.

From Agios Nikolaos

From Agios Nikolaos, you'll need to drive south on the main road that crosses the island's interior or on the coastal road that passes through Sitia and then south. The most common and efficient route is to take the E75 road and then turn off south towards Ierapetra, then follow the signs to Pachyammos. This journey will take you around 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic and your pace. It's a fantastic opportunity to see the mountainous landscape and olive groves that characterize this part of Crete.

Parking

Once you arrive in the village of Pachyammos, you'll find parking easily. Being a small village and a relatively quiet beach, there are no large organized parking lots, but there is enough space around the beach and on the adjacent streets along the waterfront. We never had trouble finding a spot to leave the car, even in high season, which is a big advantage compared to other, more crowded Greece beaches.

Availability is good, and prices are usually reasonable, allowing you to spend a whole day relaxing on the shore.
