How to Get to Playa de Otur

Getting to Playa de Otur is relatively easy, and the journey itself already offers spectacular views of the Asturian landscape. We always recommend traveling by car for maximum flexibility, as public transport in these more rural areas can be limited.

Access by Car

To reach Playa de Otur from anywhere in Asturias or outside the region, the main route is the A-8 motorway (Autovía del Cantábrico). If you are coming from the east (Oviedo, Gijón), you should take the exit towards Luarca/Valdés. If you are coming from the west (Galicia), you will also find clear signage towards Valdés and Luarca. Once on the N-632, which runs parallel to the coast, you should watch for the signposted turnoffs to the beach. The town of Otur, which gives the beach its name, is the closest reference point. Access to the beach is via a local road that gently descends to the sandy shore, making it easy to reach even for vehicles with children or elderly people.

Parking

One of the advantages of Playa de Otur is that it has a fairly large and well-organized parking area nearby. During the high season months, especially in July and August, it can fill up easily, so we always advise arriving early to secure a good spot. The parking lot is very close to the sand, which minimizes walking and makes it very convenient for carrying all the beach gear that families usually need. It is a free parking lot, which is an important plus.

Public Transport

Although there are bus lines connecting Luarca with other nearby towns, direct access to Playa de Otur by public transport is quite limited. There is no bus stop right at the beach, so if you choose this option, you will have to walk from the main road or from the town of Otur, which can be a 20-30 minute walk. For this reason, we reiterate our recommendation of using a car for greater comfort and accessibility.
