How to Get to Playa de Os Frades

Getting to Playa de Os Frades is, fortunately, quite straightforward, which adds to its appeal. Being in the heart of Baiona, the options are varied and comfortable for most visitors.

By Car

If we come by car, the best option is to head to the center of Baiona. From Vigo, we will take the Atlantic Highway (AP-9) south and then the AG-57 (Autovía do Val Miñor) towards Baiona. Once in the town, the beach is very close to the Parador de Baiona and the old town. The main challenge can be finding parking in high season. There are several parking areas, both paid and free, near the port and the center. A good reference point is the marina area or the parking near the Monterreal Fortress, from where a short walk will take us directly to the cove. We recommend arriving early to secure a good spot, especially in the summer months.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For those already staying in Baiona or its surroundings, getting to Playa de Os Frades on foot or by bicycle is a delight. The beach is perfectly integrated into the town's promenade, allowing for easy and pleasant access. From the historic center or from the walkway bordering the Monterreal Fortress, the beach is just a few minutes' walk away. It's one of those beaches you discover while strolling, almost without looking for it, which makes it even more charming. The route is flat and very pleasant, ideal for a morning or evening walk.

Public Transport

Baiona has bus lines connecting it with Vigo and other nearby municipalities. Once at the Baiona bus station, Playa de Os Frades is a comfortable 10-15 minute walk away, following signs to the port or the town center. It's always a sustainable option without parking worries.

The Sand

We find predominantly fine sand with a soft golden hue, very pleasant to the touch. It's perfect for walking barefoot, for children to play building sandcastles, or simply for spreading out a towel and enjoying the sun. Although it's a sandy beach, like a good Galician cove, it's not uncommon to find some areas with small rocky formations, especially at the ends, giving it a mixed ground character and adding interest to the landscape. These rocks, polished by the sea, are home to small crabs and other marine inhabitants, which can be a small adventure for the curious.

The Water

The waters of Playa de Os Frades are, in general, quite calm and clean, partly thanks to its sheltered location within the Bay of Baiona. Being a protected cove, currents are usually not strong, making it a safe place for swimming, even for the little ones.
