How to Get to Playa de Orikum

Getting to Playa de Orikum is relatively easy, especially if we start from the city of Vlora, one of the main urban centers on the Albanian coast. We found that the most comfortable and flexible way is by car. From Vlora, we take the SH8 road, which leads us south, towards Llogara National Park and the Albanian Riviera. The beach is located about 20-25 kilometers south of Vlora, and the journey usually takes between 30 and 40 minutes, depending on traffic and the time of year.

By Private or Rental Car

The road to Orikum is in good condition and offers impressive panoramic views of the coast and mountains. We found that there are several parking areas available near the beach, some paid and others free, especially if we move a little away from the busier areas. Renting a car gave us the freedom to explore not only the beach but also the surroundings and nearby villages at our own pace, something we always value highly in our travels.

Public Transport and Taxis

For those who prefer not to drive, there are public transport options. From Vlora, you can take 'furgonetas' (local minibuses) that cover the route to Orikum and other Riviera destinations. These are economical, although they can be less frequent and won't always drop us off right on the beach shore, requiring a short walk. Taxis are also a viable option, though more expensive, and can be convenient if we are traveling in a group and want to arrive directly at a specific point on Playa de Orikum without worries.

The Sand and Water

One of the aspects that most impressed us about Playa de Orikum was, without a doubt, the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters. Here, the sand is fine, of a light tone and soft underfoot, making it extremely pleasant for walking barefoot or for children to play and build sandcastles. Unlike other pebble beaches found in the region, Orikum offers us that classic sandy beach feeling we love so much.

A Crystal Clear and Calm Sea

The Adriatic waters at Orikum are simply spectacular: crystal clear, with shades ranging from light turquoise near the shore to a deep blue further out. The bay in which the beach sits protects it from strong currents and excessive waves, resulting in a generally calm and tranquil sea. The water temperature, especially during the summer months, is very pleasant, inviting long swims and full enjoyment of the Mediterranean.

The predominant type of ground on the shore and in the first layers of the sea is sand, which facilitates entry into the water and makes it safe for all visitors. We did not find sharp rocks or annoying pebbles, only the softness of the sand extending under our feet. This combination of fine sand and serene waters is what, for us, defines the Playa de Orikum experience and distinguishes it as a first-class beach destination in Albania.

Playa de Orikum pleasantly surprised us with the good infrastructure of services it offers, while maintaining a relaxed and less crowded atmosphere than other more urban beaches. This contributes to making our stay comfortable and pleasant, without having to worry about anything other than enjoying the sun and sea.

Amenities at the Beach

We found a good number of sun umbrellas and sunbeds available for rent on the beach. This is ideal for those of us seeking shade and a comfortable place to rest without having to carry our own equipment. Prices are reasonable and availability is usually good, even in high season, although it is always advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot.

Furthermore, the presence of chiringuitos and restaurants right on the beach is a big plus. Here we were able to enjoy refreshing drinks, ice creams, and light meals without having to go too far from the shore. There are options for all tastes, from fresh seafood dishes to traditional Albanian cuisine and international options. We also have access to bathrooms/WCs and showers to rinse off the salt and sand after a swim, which is always appreciated.

Safety and Activities
