How to Get to Playa de Neftina

Getting to Playa de Neftina is part of the adventure and charm of discovering this paradise. Located on the east coast of the island of Lemnos, access requires a bit of planning, but the reward is immense. Generally, the best option is to rent a car or a motorbike, which gives us the freedom to explore the island at our own pace and reach its most remote corners. From Myrina, the capital of Lemnos, the journey to Neftina is approximately 20-25 kilometers, which translates to about 30-40 minutes by car, depending on the route and road conditions.

Recommended Routes

• From Myrina: We will take the main road that crosses the island to the east. Signage for the different beaches and villages is quite clear, although for Neftina we may need to pay attention to signs for nearby villages like Kotsinas or Romanou, and then turn off towards the coast. The roads in Lemnos are generally good, although some sections may be narrower or more winding as we approach the coast. It is advisable to use a GPS or an updated map.
• From the airport (LGM): If we have just landed, Lemnos' international 'Hephaestus' airport is conveniently located in the center of the island. From there, the journey to Playa de Neftina is even shorter, perhaps 15-20 minutes by car, depending on the chosen route. There are car rental companies available at the airport, which is the most practical option for most travelers.

Considerations for the Journey

The last stretch to reach the beach may involve a dirt road or an unpaved track, something common in many of the more pristine Greece beaches. Although it is usually not a problem for standard vehicles, it is something to consider, especially if we are traveling with a rental car that is not a 4x4. Once near the beach, we will find an informal area to leave the car, as there is no paved parking lot as such. The ease of access, combined with the beauty of the landscape that accompanies us during the journey, makes the trip an integral part of the Playa de Neftina experience.
