How to Get to Playa de Munielles

Getting to Playa de Munielles is relatively straightforward, which adds to its appeal. It's located in the municipality of Castrillón, very close to towns like Salinas and Avilés, making it accessible both for residents and visitors arriving from other parts of Spain. The most comfortable way to access it is undoubtedly by car, as the AS-237 road will leave us a short distance from our destination.

Access by Car

If we're coming from Oviedo or Gijón, we'll take the A-8 motorway towards Avilés. Once there, we'll follow the signs to Salinas and then to the Munielles or Bahínas area, which is the adjacent beach. The signage is quite clear and will guide us without problems. Upon arrival, we'll find a large, free parking lot, which is a great advantage, especially in the summer months. From the parking lot, a short walk along a well-maintained path will lead us directly to the sand. It's important to remember that in high season, although the parking is large, it can fill up, so we recommend arriving early to secure our spot.

Public Transport

Although the car is the preferred option, it's also possible to reach the area using public transport. There are bus lines connecting Avilés with nearby towns like Salinas, and from there, although there's no direct line to the beach, a taxi or even a pleasant walk (if we're in shape and the weather permits) could be an option. However, for comfort and flexibility, especially if we're traveling with children or beach equipment, a private vehicle is the most recommended alternative to enjoy the Castrillón beach.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that catches our attention when stepping onto Playa de Munielles is the quality of its sand. It's fine and of a beautiful golden color, very pleasant to the touch and perfect for building sandcastles or simply walking barefoot feeling the caress of the sea. The sandy area, about 400 meters long, offers us enough space to find our own corner of tranquility, even on the busiest days.

The waters of Munielles are another of its great attractions. They are usually very clean and transparent, with a hue that varies between turquoise blue and emerald green, reflecting the Asturian sky. What we value most, however, is its usual calm. Protected by the surrounding cliffs, Playa de Munielles doesn't usually have strong waves, making it an exceptionally safe place for swimming, especially for the youngest members of the family. The water temperature, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, is cool but very pleasant and refreshing on sunny summer days. It's a true pleasure to immerse yourself and let yourself be carried away by the serenity of these waters.

Playa de Munielles is a sandy beach that, despite its natural beauty, doesn't forgo offering a series of essential services that guarantee a comfortable and safe stay for all its visitors. We find an infrastructure designed for enjoyment without altering the essence of the place.

Among the most notable services, we find:

• Lifeguards: During the bathing season, a team of lifeguards watches over our safety, providing peace of mind for families and all swimmers. Their presence is essential and an indicator of the beach's quality.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: After a refreshing swim, it's always a relief to be able to remove the sand and salt. The beach has public showers and toilets, maintained in good condition for visitors' use. This is especially practical if we plan to spend the whole day at the beach.
• Parking: As we already mentioned, it has a large free parking lot, which greatly facilitates car access and avoids the worry of finding a spot in high season.
• Chiringuitos: In the summer months, there is usually a chiringuito or a drinks and ice cream stand, where we can refresh ourselves or have a small snack. Although it's not a beach with a large dining offer right on the sand, these establishments cover basic needs. It's a pleasure to enjoy a cold drink with sea views.
• Cleaning and maintenance: Playa de Munielles is characterized by its cleanliness. The commitment to the environment and the maintenance of its facilities is evident, contributing to visitors' experience always being optimal. This is part of the reason why it often receives the Blue Flag.
