And Playa de Motilla in Sueca is undoubtedly one of those hidden treasures worth discovering. How to Get to Playa de Motilla

Getting to Playa de Motilla is relatively straightforward, although we recommend using a private vehicle for greater comfort, as public transport can be limited in this more natural area. If coming from Valencia city, the most direct route is to take the CV-500 heading south, crossing the Parque Natural de l'Albufera, which is a visual spectacle in itself. Once past El Palmar and El Perellonet, we continue towards Sueca. The beach is located south of the urban center of Sueca and north of Mareny de Barraquetes, forming part of a longer coastal strip.

Access and Parking

Access to Playa de Motilla is usually via secondary roads branching off the main road that runs along the coast. Being a less urbanized area, you won't find large, signposted asphalt parking lots like at other more touristy beaches. However, there is usually parking available on the sides of the roads or in dirt clearings near the beach. We always advise arriving early in the high season to secure a good spot and to respect parking areas to avoid damaging the dune vegetation that protects this beautiful ecosystem. It's informal parking, but functional and free, which is a plus for many of us who value simplicity and the absence of additional costs.

As for the water, the characteristics of the Valencian coast offer us calm, shallow waters here, especially near the shore. The water clarity is usually good, allowing us to enjoy a refreshing and pleasant swim. During the summer season, the beach has a lifeguard service, which gives us extra peace of mind, knowing professionals are watching over our safety and that of our loved ones. This service is fundamental and we always value it enormously.

In addition to lifeguards, it's common to find some showers at the beach entrance, perfect for washing off sand and salt before heading home. As for food and drink, in the summer months, temporary chiringuitos (beach bars) are usually set up, offering drinks, ice cream, and some fast-food options, allowing us to enjoy a snack without leaving the beach. However, if we're looking for a more elaborate meal, we'll need to go to nearby towns. The parking, although informal, is accessible and free. What we will miss are services like umbrella and sunbed rentals, permanent toilets, or equipped sports areas, reinforcing the idea that this is a beach to enjoy in its natural essence with basic but functional services.

Best Time to Visit

We always recommend visiting Playa de Motilla in the shoulder season, that is, during the months of May, June, and September. During these times, the climate on the Valencian coast is magnificent, with pleasant temperatures inviting for swimming and sunbathing, but with considerably fewer people than in the peak of summer. This allows us to enjoy the beach with greater tranquility and space, feeling like we have almost the entire beach to ourselves.

During the months of July and August, the crowds are larger, as is logical on any Spanish beach. Even so, thanks to its size, Playa de Motilla doesn't get as saturated as other more central beaches. If our only option is summer, we recommend getting up early to secure our spot and enjoy the first hours of the day, which are usually the quietest. Sunsets on this beach are also spectacular at any time of year, with the sun setting over the horizon and painting the sky with warm colors, an image that invites reflection and serene enjoyment.

Activities and Sports

The tranquil nature of Playa de Motilla makes it the ideal setting for relaxed activities and gentle water sports. The main activity, of course, is swimming in its calm waters, perfect for a refreshing dip or for a few strokes without worrying about currents. Sueca is famous for its International Paella Valenciana Contest, an event that attracts chefs from all over the world and celebrates local gastronomy. It's an ideal place to feel the pulse of Valencian rural life.

Nature and Landscapes

• Parque Natural de l'Albufera: A few kilometers north of Playa de Motilla stretches the impressive Parque Natural de l'Albufera, one of Spain's largest freshwater lagoons and a wetland of international importance. We highly recommend taking a boat ride on its calm waters, especially at sunset, to observe the rich birdlife and the rice fields that change color with the seasons. We can visit its imposing Castle and Sanctuary of the Virgen del Castillo, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the coast. Cullera also has a lighthouse and several urban beaches with more services, in case we're looking for a different atmosphere for a day.
• Valencia city: For a full-day excursion, the vibrant city of Valencia is about 30-40 minutes away by car. There we can immerse ourselves in culture, history, and modernity, visiting the City of Arts and Sciences, the historic center with the Cathedral and the Miguelete, or the lively Barrio del Carmen. It's a perfect option to combine beach relaxation with urban dynamism.

What to Do When It Rains

Although the Valencian coast enjoys many sunny days, it's always good to have a Plan B for those unexpected rainy days. We won't let a downpour ruin our vacation near Playa de Motilla.

• Visit to Valencia city: As we've already mentioned, Valencia city is an excellent destination for a rainy day. We can spend hours at the City of Arts and Sciences, exploring the interactive Prince Felipe Science Museum, ideal for all ages, or the impressive Oceanogràfic, Europe's largest aquarium. We can also visit the Central Market, a modernist gem where we can take shelter from the rain while discovering local products. The city's numerous museums, such as the Museum of Fine Arts or the IVAM, are also a magnificent cultural option.
