From our perspective as travelers passionate about Mediterranean coasts, Playa de Molos on the charming island of Skyros, Greece, stands as a true treasure. How to Get to Playa de Molos

Getting to Playa de Molos is part of the adventure of discovering Skyros. The island itself is mainly accessible by ferry. We usually take the ferry from the port of Kymi, on the island of Euboea, which is the most common departure point to Skyros. The ferry ride is a pleasant experience, offering spectacular views of the Aegean as we approach the island. It is advisable to book tickets in advance, especially during the peak summer season.

Once we disembark at the port of Linaria, in Skyros, Playa de Molos is a short drive or bus ride away. Linaria is well connected to Chora (the capital of Skyros) and the main beaches. We can rent a car or a scooter at the port, which gives us the freedom to explore the island at our own pace. Alternatively, there are regular bus services connecting Linaria with Chora and, from there, with the Molos and Magazia areas, which are adjacent to the beach. The journey is short and picturesque, and within minutes we will be feeling the sand under our feet on one of the best Skyros beaches.

The Sand and Water

If there is something we love about Playa de Molos, it is undoubtedly its sand and waters. The sand is a soft golden color, incredibly fine and pleasant to the touch, inviting long barefoot walks. It is the kind of sand that slips through your fingers, perfect for building sandcastles or simply relaxing in the sun. The width of the beach allows that, even on the busiest days, we can always find our own space to spread out a towel and enjoy the tranquility.

But what really distinguishes Molos are its waters. They are of astonishing clarity, with shades ranging from pale turquoise to deep blue, depending on the sunlight. The sea here is remarkably calm and shallow at the shore, making it an exceptionally safe place for swimming, especially for children. We can wade in several meters and the water will barely reach our waist, allowing everyone to enjoy a refreshing dip without worries. It is the epitome of Greece beaches when we think of serene and welcoming waters.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Molos is a well-organized beach, meaning it has excellent infrastructure to ensure a comfortable and pleasant experience for all its visitors. We greatly appreciate the availability of sunbeds and umbrellas that can be rented for the day, offering welcome shade and a comfortable place to rest. This saves us from having to carry our own equipment and allows us to arrive and simply relax.

Furthermore, the beach is dotted with charming chiringuitos and restaurants along its length. Here we can enjoy refreshing drinks, light snacks, or even a full meal, all with sea views. The presence of showers is a big plus, allowing us to rinse off the salt and sand before returning to our accommodation. There are also bathrooms/WCs available, which is essential for comfort. For our peace of mind, the beach has lifeguard services during the high season, and the availability of nearby parking facilitates access for those arriving by car. These services make Molos one of the most convenient and pleasant Skyros beaches.

Best Time to Visit

From our experience, Playa de Molos and Skyros in general, shine in all their splendor during the summer months. From June to September, the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for enjoying the beach and water activities. July and August are the busiest months, with a livelier atmosphere at the chiringuitos and more people enjoying the sand. While it is the high season, the length of Playa de Molos ensures it never feels overwhelmingly crowded, unlike other more crowded Greece beaches.

If we prefer a quieter atmosphere and potentially lower prices, we recommend visiting Molos during late spring (late May, early June) or early autumn (late September, early October). The weather is still very pleasant, the sea is warm enough for swimming, and the island is much more serene. It is the ideal time for those
