How to Get to Playa de Milna

Getting to Playa de Milna is part of the adventure and, fortunately, quite straightforward, making it accessible for all types of travelers. The island of Brač is very well connected to the mainland, mainly through Split, the capital of the Split-Dalmatia region, which greatly facilitates our journey. We always recommend planning ahead, especially if traveling during the high season, to secure tickets and avoid waiting.

The most common and picturesque way to reach Brač is by ferry. From Split, we can take a Jadrolinija ferry that takes us directly to Supetar, the island's main town. The ferry ride is itself a charming experience, offering us spectacular views of the coast and surrounding islands. Once in Supetar, Milna is about 20-30 minutes away by car or bus. There are regular bus lines connecting Supetar with Milna, an economical and comfortable option that allows us to enjoy Brač's rural landscape without worries. If we prefer more freedom, we can rent a car in Split or directly in Supetar, which will allow us to explore the island at our own pace and discover hidden coves around the Split-Dalmatia beach.

For those arriving by plane, the nearest airport is Split (SPU). From there, we can take a bus or taxi to Split's port to catch the ferry. There is also a small airport on Brač, Brač Airport (BWK), which operates seasonal flights, mainly to and from some European cities. If we are lucky enough to fly directly to Brač, the journey to Milna will be even shorter and more direct. For us, the combination of a sea and land journey to Milna is the perfect introduction to the tranquility and beauty that await us in this corner of the Croatian beaches.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Milna surprises us with a distinctive feature of many Dalmatian beaches: its pebble surface. Far from the fine sand some might be used to, here we find a surface of small stones polished by the sea, offering a unique texture under our feet. These pebbles, generally coarse in size, are incredibly comfortable for walking and lying on, and have the advantage of not sticking to the skin and clothes like sand, which makes cleaning up after a day at the beach much easier. We always recommend bringing water shoes or sandals for greater comfort, especially for children, although they are not strictly necessary.

But if the surface is pebbles, the real spectacle in Milna is the water. We dare say that the waters of Playa de Milna are among the most transparent and clean we have found on the Croatian beaches. Their clarity is such that we can see the seabed with astonishing ease, even at several meters depth. This transparency is largely due to the nature of the pebble seabed, which does not cloud the water like fine sand does. The color of the water is a palette of blues and turquoises that change with the sunlight, creating a visually stunning and very photogenic landscape.
