How to Get to Playa de Megalos Mourtias

Getting to Playa de Megalos Mourtias is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite accessible from the main points on the island of Alonissos. The most common and comfortable way to reach this beautiful cove is by car or scooter, which gives us the freedom to explore the rest of the island at our own pace.

From Patitiri, the main port of Alonissos, the journey to Megalos Mourtias is relatively short and picturesque. We will take the road heading towards the south of the island. The road is mostly paved, although there may be sections with some curves and slopes typical of Greek islands. During the drive, we will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the lush vegetation of Alonissos, making the journey a small excursion in itself. There is clear signage guiding us to the beach, so you can't get lost.

Transportation Options

• Car or scooter: Renting a vehicle is undoubtedly the most practical option. It will give us the flexibility to get to Megalos Mourtias and explore other nearby Alonissos beaches. The estimated time from Patitiri is about 10-15 minutes.
• Taxi: If we prefer not to drive, we can opt for a taxi from Patitiri. It's a comfortable option, though less flexible in terms of schedules if we wish to stay until sunset.
• On foot: Although possible, we don't recommend it unless we are hiking enthusiasts and are used to walking under the sun. The path, while not excessively long, includes some ups and downs.
• Boat: During the high season, there are sometimes small boats offering excursions to various coves on the island, and Megalos Mourtias could be one of them. This is a beautiful way to see the coast from a different perspective, but less direct if our sole goal is this particular beach.
