How to get to Playa de Marisucia

Getting to Playa de Marisucia is an adventure in itself, although quite simple. If we come from Barbate, we take the A-2233 road towards Vejer de la Frontera, and then the CA-2143 towards Caños de Meca. Once in Caños, the beach is located to the west, stretching towards El Palmar. We usually park in the designated areas, often informal, found along the road or near the access points to the chiringuitos. During the summer, parking can be a challenge, so we recommend arriving early or considering alternative transport options, such as a bicycle, if we are staying nearby. From the center of Caños de Meca, we can reach it on foot in about 15-20 minutes, enjoying a pleasant coastal walk. It is one of those Cádiz beaches with access that, although not complicated, gradually immerses us in its natural environment.

The sand and the water

The sand of Playa de Marisucia is, without a doubt, one of its greatest virtues. Predominantly fine and golden, it stretches for its considerable length, offering a perfect canvas for walking barefoot, building sandcastles, or simply lying down to sunbathe. It's true that, as its name might suggest in other circumstances, we can sometimes find small shells or debris washed up by the tide, but this is part of its natural charm and wild character. The ground is mostly sand, making it very comfortable for enjoyment.

As for the water, we encounter the refreshing and transparent waters of the Atlantic. Its color varies between turquoise blue and emerald green, depending on the sunlight and daily conditions. The water quality is usually excellent, inviting for swimming and water sports. However, we must consider that, being a beach open to the ocean, there can be moderate waves and, occasionally, currents, especially on windy days. The feeling of freshness the water provides is unmatched, and it's a pleasure to dive in, especially on hot summer days. The waters are generally shallow near the shore, making it relatively safe, but always with caution.

Services and facilities

Despite its natural and wild character, Playa de Marisucia has a series of essential services that make our visit more comfortable. We have verified that, especially during the high season, chiringuitos are set up on the beach. These establishments not only offer us the possibility of enjoying a cold drink or a delicious meal by the sea, but they often have showers to rinse off the sand and salt, and in some cases, bathrooms/WC. The presence of parking, although often informal and in dirt areas, is essential for those arriving by car, although in summer it can be difficult to find a spot.

A crucial service, especially for families' peace of mind, is the presence of lifeguards during the bathing season. Their vigilance allows us to enjoy the sea with greater safety. Furthermore, given the beach's popularity for wind sports, it's common to find equipment rental points for surfing, kitesurfing, or paddle surfing, allowing us to try these exciting activities without needing to bring our own gear. What we won't find here is the overcrowding of services like organized sunbeds and umbrellas across the entire beach, which helps maintain its purer, less exploited essence. It is one of those Barbate (Caños) beaches that balances the natural with the practical well.

Best time to visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Marisucia will depend a lot on our preferences and the activities we have in mind. We would say that each season has its own charm on this beach in Cádiz.

• Summer (June to September): This is the busiest and most lively time. The weather is warm and sunny, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. All services are operational, and the atmosphere at the chiringuitos is vibrant. However, it's also when the Levante wind can blow more strongly, which is ideal for wind sports, but perhaps less so for those seeking a calm swim without sand in their face. If our intention is to enjoy the sun and beach life, summer is the obvious choice.

• Spring (April and May): P
