However, before reaching Vai, we will look for a turn-off that, although not always perfectly signposted, will guide us to Maridati. The main road is paved, but the last few kilometers are usually on a dirt track, sometimes a bit rough, which adds a touch of exploration to the journey.

This unpaved road, although it may seem an inconvenience, is precisely what has helped preserve the natural essence and tranquility of Playa de Maridati. Driving along it gives us the feeling of heading to a special place, a secret that only a few know. We recommend driving with caution, especially if your car is not a 4x4, although a standard vehicle is usually sufficient. The journey offers us panoramic views of the Cretan landscape, with olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation, preparing our senses for the final reward: the immaculate beauty of Maridati. Once there, you will find an informal area to park, usually under the shade of trees.

Mainly, we find a small and charming traditional taverna, often referred to as a 'kantina' or 'taverna', right next to the beach. Here we can enjoy refreshing drinks, coffees, and sometimes simple but delicious homemade Cretan dishes, such as Greek salads, fresh fish, or local snacks. It is the perfect place to take shelter from the sun and replenish energy. Furthermore, this taverna usually offers a limited number of umbrellas and sunbeds that we can rent, which is a great relief on the sunniest days. Regarding parking, there is an informal, unpaved area where we can leave our vehicle, usually in the shade of the tamarind trees that line the coast. It is important to remember that there are no public showers, lifeguards, or organized toilets, so we always recommend coming prepared with our own provisions and being aware of the importance of keeping the environment clean. The experience at Maridati is more about connecting with nature than with modern comforts.
