From the moment we set foot on Playa de Magre, we knew we had found a special corner. Located in the heart of the magnificent Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila Regional Park, in the municipality of Cartagena, Murcia, this beach is not just another one in the crowd. It's an invitation to disconnect, a natural canvas where the hand of man has barely left a trace. Here, the wild beauty of the Mediterranean is displayed in all its splendor, with dunes, cliffs, and native vegetation framing a dreamlike landscape.

Playa de Magre is the kind of place that makes you take a deep breath and feel like time has stopped. Its golden sands and turquoise waters, incredibly clean and calm, make it an ideal destination for those fleeing the hustle and bustle and seeking a more intimate experience with nature. It's a refuge, a sanctuary where the only predominant sounds are the waves caressing the shore and the song of seabirds. For us, visiting Magre is to reconnect with the essence of what a beach in Murcia should be: pure, serene, and spectacular.

How to Get to Playa de Magre

Getting to Playa de Magre is an adventure in itself, and it's part of what keeps it so well-preserved. Being within a protected regional park, access is regulated, especially during the summer months. We always recommend planning the visit in advance to avoid surprises.

Access in High Season (June to September)

During the summer, private vehicle access to the beaches of Calblanque, including Magre, is restricted to preserve the ecosystem. It's necessary to leave the car in a designated parking area near Los Belones and use a shuttle bus service. These buses usually operate from early morning until dusk, with reasonable frequency. It's a comfortable and ecological way to get there, and it allows us to enjoy the landscape without worrying about parking or environmental impact. The bus stop will leave you relatively close to the beach, although there's always a short walk on foot that goes through dunes and well-marked trails.

Access in Low Season (Rest of the Year)

Outside the summer season, private car access is usually permitted to a parking area closer to the beach. However, spaces are limited and the access road, although passable, can be a bit rough. We always advise driving with caution and respecting the park's signage. From this parking lot, a short and pleasant walk leads us directly to the sand. It's a delight to be able to arrive with more freedom and enjoy the tranquility offered by these less crowded months.

The Sand and the Water

Playa de Magre is a spectacle for the senses, and its sand and waters are, without a doubt, the main attractions. We were captivated by the quality of its sand, which is predominantly fine and of a soft golden color that shines under the Mediterranean sun. Walking barefoot, the sensation is incredibly pleasant, a true caress for the feet. It's not the type of sand that sticks excessively, which is always a plus, especially if we're with children.

As for the water, it is simply crystal clear. The transparency is such that we can easily see the seabed, even several meters deep. Its hue varies between turquoise blue and emerald green, creating a beautiful contrast with the gold of the sand. The waters are usually calm, with a gentle or practically non-existent swell most days, making it an ideal place for swimming and enjoying a relaxing bath. The water temperature is pleasant during the summer months and early autumn, inviting us to spend hours in it. Cleanliness is a constant, and the care and protection of its natural environment are noticeable, contributing to an unbeatable bathing experience on this beach in Cartagena.

Services and Facilities

It's important to remember that Playa de Magre is located within a Regional Park, which means the philosophy is to preserve its natural state. Therefore, we should not expect to find a wide range of services and facilities like on an urban beach. And, honestly, that's part of its charm! The absence of large infrastructure contributes to its wild and relaxed atmosphere.

On the beach itself, services are minimal. During the high season, we can find a lifeguard post that watches over the safety of bathers, which is a relief. However, there are no showers or foot-washing stations directly on the sand, so it's good to be prepared. As for food and drink, there are no permanent chiringuitos on the beach. This means we must bring our own provisions of food and drink if we plan to spend the day. We always prepare a good cooler with fresh water, juices, sandwiches, and fruit. It's a perfect opportunity for a picnic in the heart of nature.

The parking is the most relevant service, although, as already mentioned, its location varies depending on the season. In summer, the parking is far away and requires the use of the shuttle bus. Off-season, you can access a closer parking lot, but spaces are limited. We won't find umbrella or sunbed rentals, nor sports or children's play areas. The 'children's area' here is nature itself, with space to explore and build sandcastles. The key to enjoying Magre is to go with the mindset of 'we bring everything we need ourselves,' and then the experience will be perfect.
