How to Get to Playa de Llamani

Getting to Playa de Llamani is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite simple from Vlora. We always recommend renting a car to have total freedom of movement on the Albanian Riviera, although there are also public transport and taxi options. If we are coming from the city of Vlora, the most direct route is to take the SH8 highway heading south, towards Saranda. This coastal route is famous for its impressive panoramic views, which alone justify the trip. As we venture along the coast, the landscapes become more dramatic, with steep cliffs and hidden coves.

From Vlora by Car

We depart from the center of Vlora and follow the signs towards Himara or Saranda via the SH8. After about 20-30 minutes of travel, depending on traffic and our speed to enjoy the views, we will find a clearly marked turnoff towards Playa de Llamani. The road descending to the beach is winding and somewhat steep, but it is paved and perfectly passable. It is advisable to drive with caution, especially during the high season, when there are more vehicles and pedestrians. At the bottom of the descent, we will reach the parking area.

Parking

At Playa de Llamani, there is an enabled parking area, which is usually paid during the summer months. The cost is reasonable and guarantees a safe place for our vehicle. We always prefer to pay for a supervised parking lot, especially in crowded beach areas, for our peace of mind. It's important to arrive early on days with high influx if we want to secure a good spot, as the beach is very popular among locals and tourists. Once parked, access to the shore is direct, although there may be some steps or a gentle ramp depending on the area.

Public Transport and Taxis

Although a car is the most comfortable option, it is also possible to get to this Vlora beach by taxi from the city. Prices are negotiable but are usually fair. For a more local and economical experience, we can take a furgon (minibus) from Vlora heading towards southern towns like Dhermi or Himara, and ask the driver to drop us off at the Llamani turnoff. From there, we would have to walk down the access road to the beach, which can be a pleasant but somewhat long walk under the summer sun. We always weigh comfort against cost, and for Llamani, the car seems to us the best investment to fully enjoy it.

The Shore and the Water

We always recommend bringing water shoes or sandals, as walking on the pebbles can be a bit uncomfortable for some, although others find it a pleasant foot massage.

The tones vary from a deep blue in the distance to an emerald turquoise near the shore, allowing us to see the seabed with impressive clarity even at several meters depth. This clarity is largely due to the composition of pebbles instead of fine sand, which does not suspend as easily in the water. When we immerse ourselves, the sensation is one of delicious freshness, perfect for combating the Albanian summer heat.
