Introduction
Welcome to one of the best-kept treasures of the Cyclades! We are referring, of course, to the charming Playa de Livadia on the idyllic island of Antiparos, Greece. If you are looking for a refuge away from the hustle and bustle, a place where time seems to stand still and natural beauty reigns supreme, then Livadia is undoubtedly your ideal destination. This beach has captivated us with its atmosphere of tranquility, its hypnotic blue waters, and the soft caress of its sand underfoot. It is the kind of place one imagines when dreaming of the perfect Mediterranean holiday: a picturesque setting where calm and serenity are the main characters.
Upon arriving at Playa de Livadia, we are immediately enveloped in a feeling of peace. It is not a beach of large crowds or noisy beach bars, but an authentic corner that preserves the essence of the Greek islands. Here, the sound of waves gently breaking on the shore becomes the soundtrack of our days, and the panoramic views of the Aegean Sea invite us to contemplation. It is a natural gem that offers us the opportunity to reconnect with nature, with ourselves, and with our loved ones, away from everyday worries. If you are looking for a genuine and relaxing beach experience in Antiparos, Livadia awaits us with open arms.
How to Get to Playa de Livadia
Getting to Playa de Livadia is part of the adventure and allows us to appreciate the rustic beauty of Antiparos. The island of Antiparos does not have its own airport, so the first step is to fly to Paros National Airport (PAS). From there, we usually take a taxi or a local bus to the port of Pounta, which is about 10-15 minutes away. From Pounta, a small ferry takes us to Antiparos in just 7-10 minutes. Ferries operate very frequently during the day in high season, which makes the transfer easy.
Once in Antiparos, we recommend renting a car, a motorbike, or a quad for total freedom of movement, although there is also a bus service connecting Antiparos Town with some of the main beaches. Playa de Livadia is located on the west coast of the island, about 10-12 kilometers southwest of Antiparos Town (Chora). The road to Livadia is mostly paved, although the last stretches can be a bit more winding and narrow, adding a touch of rural charm to our journey. We always enjoy this route, as it offers spectacular views of the Cycladic landscape and prepares us for the paradise that awaits. There is signage, but it is always useful to have a GPS or a map to avoid getting lost.
The Sand and Water
The most distinctive feature of Playa de Livadia is undoubtedly the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. We have marveled at the softness of the sand, of a pale golden hue and a fine texture that invites us to walk barefoot and relax on it. It is the perfect type of sand for children to build sandcastles or to simply lay out a towel and enjoy the sun. Although the ground type is predominantly sand, in some areas closer to the rocks or the ends of the beach, we can find small pebbles that add a touch of diversity to the landscape.
The waters of Livadia are simply spectacular. Their transparency is astonishing, allowing us to see the seabed with incredible clarity. The color ranges between shades of turquoise blue and emerald green, creating a vibrant contrast with the sand. Furthermore, the waters are usually very calm and shallow near the shore, making them ideal for safe swimming, especially for the little ones in the family. We have spent hours enjoying a refreshing swim in these waters, feeling how they revitalize us and transport us to a state of complete relaxation. The combination of fine sand and serene waters makes Playa de Livadia a true paradise for lovers of the sea and tranquility.
Services and Facilities
We have always appreciated that Playa de Livadia maintains its natural essence and is not overloaded with large tourist complexes or excessive services. Precisely, that is part of its charm. However, this does not mean it lacks basic amenities that we consider important for a pleasant stay. The services at Livadia are rather discreet and integrate harmoniously with the surroundings.
Among the services we have found, we highlight the presence of an informal but sufficient Parking area where we can leave our vehicles without major problems. This is essential if we have opted to rent a car or motorbike, which we always recommend for exploring the island. Another plus point is the existence of at least one Chiringuito or, rather, a traditional Greek taverna (like the well-known Taverna Livadia) right on the beach or very close by. Here, we can enjoy refreshing drinks, delicious local cuisine dishes, and sometimes even rent Sunbeds and umbrellas for a modest price. This allows us to spend the whole day on the beach comfortably, without having to carry our own equipment. It is important to remember that, being a quieter and more natural beach, it does not have services like public showers, permanent lifeguards, or toilets/WCs on the beach itself, although the taverna usually offers these facilities to its customers. We always advise bringing our own towels and sunscreen, and being prepared to enjoy a more authentic and less commercial experience.
Best Time to Visit
We, as experts on beaches in Greece, always recommend carefully planning the time of our visit to make the most of the experience at Playa de Livadia and the entire island of Antiparos.
