How to Get to Playa de Legrena

Getting to Playa de Legrena is relatively straightforward, although a car is undoubtedly the most comfortable and recommended option for exploring the Athenian Riviera. From central Athens, the journey takes about an hour, following the picturesque coastal road that gifts us with spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. This coastal route is an experience in itself, with numerous coves and small beaches inviting us to stop.

By Car

If we choose the car, we must take Poseidonos Avenue (Leoforos Poseidonos) south, towards Sounion. The road is easy to follow and well signposted. Once we approach the Legrena area, we will find well-marked turnoffs to the beach. The parking is not formal, but there is space to park along the road or near the surrounding tavernas. It is important to arrive early in high season to secure a good spot.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, the main option is to take a KTEL bus from the Kifissos bus station (Athens) bound for Sounion. These buses are frequent and the trip lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in Sounion, Playa de Legrena is a few kilometers away. We could take a local taxi or, if we feel energetic, enjoy a scenic walk. However, for greater flexibility and comfort, we insist that the car is the best alternative for visiting this beach in Attica.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Legrena welcomes us with fine sand, of a pale golden color that contrasts beautifully with the hues of the sea. It is a pleasure to walk barefoot on it, to feel its softness under our feet as we approach the shore. The predominant ground type is sand, making it very comfortable for laying out our towel and enjoying the sun.

But what truly captivates us about Legrena are its crystal-clear waters. They are of astonishing transparency, allowing us to easily see the seabed. The sea here is generally very calm and shallow in the first few meters, making it an exceptionally safe place for swimming, especially for children. The water temperature is pleasant for much of the year, inviting us to dive in and enjoy a refreshing dip at any time. It is, without a doubt, one of the beaches in Greece that impresses us most with the purity of its waters.

Services and Facilities

Unlike other more crowded beaches in Attica, Playa de Legrena maintains a more discreet profile regarding services, which contributes to its natural and tranquil charm. Let's not expect massive tourist infrastructure, but rather the essentials for a relaxing beach day.

Among the services we find, we highlight the presence of some chiringuitos and traditional tavernas right next to the beach. These establishments usually offer sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, allowing us to enjoy shade and comfort without needing to carry our own equipment. Furthermore, in these tavernas we can find Bathrooms/WCs and, of course, delight in delicious local cuisine.

The parking is informal, as mentioned, but space is generally found without great difficulty. It is important to note that the beach does not have lifeguard service or special accessibility facilities, so we must be cautious and take our own safety measures. Its more natural and less developed character is, for many, precisely what makes it so attractive.

Best Time to Visit

To fully enjoy Playa de Legrena, we consider the best time to visit to be during spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October). During these months, the climate is ideal, with pleasant temperatures inviting for swimming and sunbathing, but without the stifling heat of midsummer. Furthermore, we avoid the crowds of July and August, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility and serenity of the beach at its finest.

If our only option is summer, we recommend visiting Playa de Legrena early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid peak hours and the most intense sun. The sunsets at Legrena are particularly beautiful, with the sky painted in vibrant colors over the Aegean, an image that will be etched in our memory.
