When we think of Gran Canaria beaches, we often imagine the vast expanses of golden sand in the south. However, Playa de las Nieves surprises us with its unique combination of pebbles and dark volcanic sand, giving it a wild yet welcoming character. Its waters, generally calm and crystal clear, are a delight for swimming and snorkeling, while the views of the imposing Roque Faneque and the characteristic white houses of the port gift us a postcard-perfect landscape. How to get to Playa de las Nieves

Getting to Playa de las Nieves in Agaete is relatively straightforward and part of the adventure. If coming from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital, the most direct route is via the GC-2 motorway heading north. The journey is spectacular, winding along the coast and offering panoramic ocean views. After about 30-40 minutes by car, we take the exit towards Agaete and, following the signs to Puerto de las Nieves, we arrive at our destination.

By car

For those who choose a car, which is the most comfortable and flexible option, finding parking in Puerto de las Nieves is usually possible, although in high season or on weekends it can be a bit more challenging. There are public parking areas, both free and paid, very close to the beach and the restaurants. It is advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot and enjoy the day without worries.

By public transport

If we prefer public transport, the company Global offers bus lines connecting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with Agaete and Puerto de las Nieves. Line 103 is one of the most used for this route. The buses are comfortable and allow us to relax and enjoy the scenery without worrying about driving or parking. Once at the port, the beach is just a few meters away, a short and pleasant walk.

The sand and water

Playa de las Nieves stands out notably from other Gran Canaria beaches due to its unique characteristics regarding the ground composition. Here we won't find the typical fine, golden sand, but a fascinating mix of pebbles of various sizes and dark volcanic sand. This peculiarity gives it a rustic and natural charm, inviting us to walk barefoot with a different sensation under our feet. The pebbles, polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves, are perfect for collecting and remind us of the strength and beauty of the sea.

The water at Playa de las Nieves is certainly one of its greatest attractions. Its turquoise hues and exceptional clarity invite us to dive in immediately. Being protected by the port's breakwater, currents are minimal and the waves are usually very gentle, making it an ideal spot for swimming, even for the less experienced. The water temperature is pleasant for most of the year, allowing us to enjoy a refreshing dip in any season. It is a true pleasure to swim in these waters, which offer excellent visibility for snorkeling, allowing us to observe the rich marine life that inhabits the rocky bottom.

We also have showers to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, and in some areas, umbrellas and sun loungers can be rented to enjoy the sun more comfortably. Although the beach is not large, these basic services are highly valued.

The true wealth of services is found just a few steps away, at Puerto de las Nieves. Here the offering is wide and varied:
