Introduction
If there's a spot in Fuerteventura that invites calm and family enjoyment without fuss, that is, without a doubt, Playa de las Caletillas. Located in the municipality of Antigua, very close to the popular tourist area of Caleta de Fuste, this small gem is often overlooked by those seeking the island's larger and busier beaches. However, for us, its discretion is precisely part of its charm, a hidden treasure that deserves to be discovered.
Here, time seems to stand still. The crystal-clear and shallow waters, protected by natural breakwaters, make it the perfect setting for the little ones to play safely and for adults to relax with the sea breeze. It's one of those beaches in Fuerteventura where you can truly disconnect, feeling the sand under your feet and the sun caressing your skin, far from the daily hustle and bustle. It's an excellent alternative to the more crowded beaches, offering a more intimate and serene atmosphere, but with the advantage of having all necessary services within reach thanks to its proximity to Caleta de Fuste.
How to get to Playa de las Caletillas
Getting to Playa de las Caletillas is relatively straightforward, making it even more attractive for any type of traveler. Being on the east coast of Fuerteventura, access is very convenient from the airport, located just 10-15 minutes by car, which is a great advantage if we've just landed and want to start enjoying the island as soon as possible. The beach is located south of Caleta de Fuste, so if we're already staying in this area, we can even walk there, enjoying a pleasant stroll along the coast.
By car
Undoubtedly, the most recommended option for exploring Fuerteventura and its beaches is a rental car. From the airport, simply take the FV-2 heading south and follow the signs towards Caleta de Fuste. Once there, continue along the coast to the south, and you'll see the signs or the coves themselves that make up Las Caletillas. There are free parking areas nearby, which makes visiting very easy. The road is in excellent condition, making the journey very pleasant and hassle-free. It's an advantage not always found in more remote beaches, and here the ease of access and parking is greatly appreciated.
By public transport
Although a car is ideal, it's also possible to get there by public transport. Several bus lines (guaguas) connect the airport and Puerto del Rosario with Caleta de Fuste. Once in Caleta de Fuste, Playa de las Caletillas is within walking distance. The frequency of the guaguas is good during the day, but it's always advisable to check the updated schedules, especially if we plan to return at sunset. It's an economical and sustainable option, although it may require a bit more planning and time.
Walking or by bicycle
For those staying in Caleta de Fuste, the beach is accessible on foot or by bicycle via the promenade. It's a fantastic way to enjoy the coastal landscape, feel the sea breeze, and get some exercise before diving into the waters. The walk is flat and well-maintained, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It's an option we always value, as it allows for a deeper immersion in the natural and urban environment of the area.
The sand and the water
One of the most notable features of Playa de las Caletillas is its sand. It's a fine, golden sand, very pleasant to the touch, inviting you to take off your shoes and take long walks along the shore. You won't find the large dunes of Corralejo or Sotavento here, but rather a stretch of comfortable, clean sand, perfect for lying down and enjoying the Majorero sun. The golden hue of the sand contrasts wonderfully with the turquoise blue of the Atlantic, creating a picture-postcard scene.
The water is, without a doubt, the main attraction of this beach. Las Caletillas are sheltered by small breakwaters or natural rock formations that act as a barrier against currents and waves. This means the waters are extraordinarily calm and shallow, ideal for swimming. The absence of large waves makes it a safe place for children and for those who don't feel comfortable in the open sea. Furthermore, the transparency of the water is astonishing, allowing you to easily see the seabed and, sometimes, small fish venturing near the shore. It's a true pleasure to immerse yourself in these warm, crystal-clear waters, feeling all your worries dissipate.
The type of seabed on the beach is predominantly sand, which guarantees a comfortable experience both in and out of the water. There are no annoying rocks to hinder access or enjoyment of the swim, making this beach an accessible and pleasant place for everyone. The combination of fine sand and gentle waters is what makes it one of our favorite recommendations for a quiet beach day in Fuerteventura.
Services and facilities
Despite being a more secluded beach than others in the area, Playa de las Caletillas has a series of services and facilities that make it very comfortable for visitors. The proximity to Caleta de Fuste ensures we won't lack for anything, whether directly on the beach or just a few minutes' walk away.
