How to Get to Playa de La Zurriola

Getting to Playa de La Zurriola is extraordinarily easy, given its privileged location in the heart of Donostia-San Sebastián. We always recommend exploring public transport options or, if time allows, enjoying a pleasant walk.

By Public Transport

• Bus: Several urban bus lines (DBUS) have stops very close to the beach, connecting it with practically every point in the city. Lines 8, 17, 29, 31, 33, 37, and 40 are some that will drop you off just a few meters from the sand. It's a comfortable and efficient option.
• Euskotren: If you're coming from other towns in Gipuzkoa, the Gros Euskotren station is a short walk from the beach, making it an excellent alternative to avoid traffic and parking.

By Car

If you choose to drive, keep in mind that on-street parking can be difficult, especially during high season. However, there are several underground car parks very close to the beach that facilitate access:

• Kursaal Car Park: Right under the palace, it's the closest option.
• Plaza de Cataluña Car Park: Also in the Gros neighborhood, a short walk away.
• Txofre Car Park: Another alternative in the same neighborhood.

On Foot or by Bicycle

From the center of Donostia, a walk of no more than 15-20 minutes crossing the Urumea river takes us directly to Zurriola. It's a pleasant route with spectacular views of the river and the Kursaal. The city also has an extensive network of bidegorris (bike lanes), making cycling a very popular and eco-friendly option.

The Sand and the Water

When we step onto Playa de La Zurriola, the first thing that captivates us is its fine, golden sand. It's a pleasure to walk barefoot on it, feel its softness underfoot, and watch the sun make it shine. This sand, of natural origin and meticulously cared for, stretches for almost 800 meters, offering ample space for everyone, from those seeking a spot to lie down and relax to those who prefer to set up a beach volleyball game.

The type of ground is predominantly sand, making it very comfortable and safe for swimming and sports. We don't find large rocks or pebbles that hinder access to the sea, which is a plus, especially for children or those who enjoy a walk along the shore.

The waters of Zurriola are known for their cleanliness and quality, which has earned it the Blue Flag distinction on numerous occasions. But if there's one thing that defines the water of this beach, it's its waves. Unlike the more sheltered La Concha, Zurriola is open to the Cantabrian Sea, receiving the swell with an energy that has made it the surfing paradise of the Basque Country. The waves are constant and varied, suitable for different levels, from beginners taking their first lessons to experienced surfers seeking challenges. The water temperature, although cool, is very pleasant in summer and suitable for swimming for a good part of the year, especially with a good wetsuit.

• Lifeguard Service: During the bathing season, the beach has a complete lifeguard service that watches over the safety of swimmers and surfers. There are watchtowers and qualified personnel, which gives us great peace of mind.
• Full Accessibility: Zurriola is an example of an accessible beach. It has wooden walkways that reach the sand, ramps, and, in high season, amphibious chairs and support staff for people with reduced mobility, making it a truly inclusive beach.
