Today we want to tell you about Playa de la Palmera, a hidden gem in the municipality of Pulpí, very close to the charming town of San Juan de los Terreros. Playa de la Palmera is not one of those overcrowded beaches that sometimes overwhelm us in the height of summer. On the contrary, it's a moderately sized cove with a tranquil, family-friendly atmosphere that makes it the perfect destination for disconnecting. Here, the sound of the waves is the main soundtrack, and the sea breeze gently caresses us as we enjoy a well-deserved break. It is, without a doubt, one of the Almería beaches that deserves to be discovered and enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

How to Get to Playa de la Palmera

Getting to Playa de la Palmera is relatively easy, especially if we travel by car, which is the most comfortable option for exploring this area of Almería. The beach is located in San Juan de los Terreros, a coastal district of Pulpí that is easily accessible from the Mediterranean Highway (A-7).

By Car

If we're coming from the city of Almería, we must take the A-7 towards Murcia and then turn off towards Águilas/San Juan de los Terreros. If we're coming from Murcia, we'll also take the A-7 towards Almería and take the exit for San Juan de los Terreros. Once in San Juan de los Terreros, Playa de la Palmera is well signposted and is located in the easternmost area of the town, near the Castillo de San Juan de los Terreros. There is parking available on the surrounding streets, although in high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot right next to the beach, so we recommend arriving early.

Public Transport

Public transport in this area is somewhat more limited. There are bus lines connecting San Juan de los Terreros with Pulpí and other nearby towns, but the frequency isn't very high and they won't always drop us off right at the beach. Our recommendation is always to use a car for total freedom of movement and to be able to explore the surroundings without depending on schedules. For those who prefer not to drive, local taxis are an option, albeit at a higher cost.

When we talk about Playa de la Palmera, we cannot fail to highlight two of its most prized attributes: its sand and its water. They are, without a doubt, the elements that invite us to relax and fully enjoy the Mediterranean experience.

Fine, Golden Sand

The sand at Playa de la Palmera is predominantly fine and of a golden hue that shines under the Almerían sun. It's soft, pleasant-to-the-touch sand, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out our towel and lying down to sunbathe. Being a semi-urban cove, the cleanliness of the sand is usually quite good, and it is well-maintained for the enjoyment of all visitors. The type of ground is, for the most part, sand, which facilitates access to and enjoyment of the shore.

Crystal-Clear and Calm Waters

But if there's something that truly captivates us about Playa de la Palmera, it's its waters. They are of astonishing transparency, with turquoise and emerald tones that invite us to dive right in. Calm is one of its main characteristics, as the cove is sheltered from stronger currents, making it an ideal spot for swimming, even for children or those who don't feel very comfortable in rougher waters. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is very pleasant, allowing us to enjoy long swims without feeling cold. The clarity of the water is also perfect for snorkeling and discovering the marine life hidden near the rocks.

Services and Facilities

Despite being a moderately sized beach, Playa de la Palmera has a good range of services that make it very comfortable for visitors. Its proximity to San Juan de los Terreros also ensures we have everything we need close at hand.

• Showers and Toilets/WC: We have showers to wash off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as public toilets, which is always a plus for our comfort.
• Parking: Although it's not a beach-exclusive parking lot, in the surroundings and streets adjacent to Playa de la Palmera we can find parking areas. As mentioned, in high season it's better to arrive early.
• Chiringuitos: On the beach itself or in its immediate vicinity, we find some chiringuitos where we can have a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or even enjoy a meal with sea views. They are perfect for taking a break and sheltering from the sun during the middle of the day.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high summer season (generally from June to September), the beach has a lifeguard service, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we're with children. It's always important to follow the lifeguards' instructions and the flags indicating sea conditions.
