How to Get to Playa de la Ensenada

Getting to Playa de la Ensenada is relatively straightforward, although we recommend a car for greater comfort and flexibility, as it is located at the northern tip of the island. If we come from Arrecife, the capital, the journey takes about 40-45 minutes. We must take the LZ-1 heading north, passing through towns like Tahíche and Guatiza, until we reach Órzola. Just before entering the village completely, or once inside, you will see signs or be able to access the beach, which is located to the side of the road leading to the port.

From other points on the island, such as Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen, the route is similar, always heading towards Órzola via the LZ-1. The beach is very close to the pier from where ferries depart for La Graciosa, making it easily identifiable. You can find an informal parking area or parking in the vicinity of the village of Órzola, from where a short walk will take you directly to the sand. Public transport is more limited in this area, so a private or rental vehicle is the best option for freely exploring the Lanzarote beaches and their surroundings.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that captivates us when stepping onto Playa de la Ensenada is the quality of its sand. It is fine, golden sand, incredibly soft to the touch, inviting you to take off your shoes and feel every step. This type of sand is ideal for walking, for children to play building sandcastles, or simply for relaxing in the sun. You won't find the dark volcanic sands characteristic of other areas of the island here, but rather a lighter tone that contrasts perfectly with the blue of the ocean.

The waters of this beach are, without exaggeration, a marvel. They are extraordinarily crystal clear, allowing you to see the sandy bottom with total clarity. But what really makes them special is their calmness. Being sheltered, Playa de la Ensenada usually doesn't have big waves, making it a perfect natural swimming pool. The shallow depth at the shore makes it very safe for the little ones, and its temperature is usually pleasant, inviting long swims and worry-free enjoyment of the Lanzarote Atlantic.

Services and Facilities

It's important for you to know that Playa de la Ensenada is, by its nature, a beach with fairly limited services, which precisely contributes to its wild and tranquil charm. Don't expect to find large shower complexes, beachfront 'chiringuitos', or umbrella and sunbed rentals here. Its main attraction lies in its almost virgin state, in that direct connection with nature.

The most relevant service we can mention is the availability of parking nearby, which facilitates access by car. For any other need, like a coffee, a soft drink, or a place to buy something to eat, you will need to head to the nearby village of Órzola, which is a very short distance away. There you will find small supermarkets, bars, and restaurants where you can stock up. This absence of large infrastructure is, for many of us, a plus, as it preserves the essence of this beautiful Teguise beach and allows you to enjoy it in an atmosphere of absolute peace.

Best Time to Visit

Lanzarote enjoys enviable weather all year round, known as the 'eternal spring', which means Playa de la Ensenada is an appealing destination in any season. However, there are times that, in our opinion, are especially ideal for visiting.

Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November)

These periods are perhaps the most recommended. Temperatures are very pleasant, the sun shines intensely but without the more stifling heat of summer, and, crucially, tourist numbers are lower. You can enjoy the beach with even greater tranquility, easily finding your perfect spot on the sand. The waters maintain a comfortable temperature for swimming, and the landscapes look spectacular with a soft, clean light.

Summer (June-August)

During the summer months, the beach is more popular, especially among local families and visitors seeking sun and sea. Although there will be more people, Playa de la Ensenada rarely feels crowded like other more urban beaches. Temperatures are higher, making a dip in its waters even more refreshing.

Winter (December-February)
