How to Get to Playa de La Chucha

Getting to Playa de La Chucha is relatively straightforward, which adds to its appeal, especially for those traveling with family or seeking comfort in their journeys. We always recommend the car as the most practical option, as it gives us the freedom to also explore the charming surroundings.

By Car

If you're coming from anywhere in Spain, the main access route is the Mediterranean Motorway, the A-7. You should take the exit towards Motril or Salobreña, depending on your direction. Once on the local road connecting both municipalities, the N-340 or the A-7 for more direct stretches, you'll find clear signs to the beach. Playa de La Chucha is located on the coastal stretch between the port of Motril and Salobreña, so its location is easily identifiable. You can't miss it, and the journey is usually very pleasant, with views of the sea and the subtropical crop fields that characterize this area of the Costa Tropical.

Parking

One of the advantages we most appreciate about this beach is the ease of finding parking. Along the road running parallel to the beach and in its vicinity, there are usually designated parking areas. Although during the peak season, in July and August, it might be a bit harder to find a spot during the middle of the day, it's generally not an insurmountable problem. This allows us to arrive, park without major headaches, and start enjoying the beach almost immediately, without long walks carrying all our beach gear.

Public Transport

For those who prefer not to use a car, or who are already staying in Motril, there are urban bus lines connecting the center of Motril with the different beaches of the municipality, including the Playa de La Chucha area. It's a comfortable and economical option, although perhaps with less schedule flexibility than a private vehicle. It's always advisable to check the updated timetables of the local bus lines to plan your trip in advance.

The Sand and Water

Playa de La Chucha captivates us, in large part, due to the uniqueness and quality of its sand and the transparency of its waters. They are, without a doubt, two of its greatest attractions and the pillars of the relaxation experience we seek.

The Sand

The sand of Playa de La Chucha is a distinctive feature of the Granada Costa Tropical. Don't expect the golden sand of the Levante; here we find dark-colored sand, almost grayish, but very fine and pleasant to the touch. It's sand that heats up quickly under the sun, but is very comfortable for walking barefoot or for laying out a towel and enjoying a good book. We love the feeling of this sand under our feet, a contrast with the intense blue of the Mediterranean. Furthermore, its composition contributes to the clarity of the water, as it doesn't get stirred up as easily as other lighter sands, keeping the seabed more visible and attractive.

The Water

The waters of Playa de La Chucha are, for us, one of its greatest treasures. They are notably clean, transparent, and for most of the year, have a very pleasant temperature, especially from late spring well into autumn. The natural protection offered by nearby rock formations and its location in a semi-open bay mean the waves are generally moderate or even non-existent, making it an ideal beach for safe swimming, even for the little ones or for those who aren't comfortable with strong currents. We immerse ourselves in them with total confidence, enjoying their freshness and their invitation to calm.

The Seabed

Although the seabed is predominantly sandy, at the ends of the beach and in areas close to the rocks, we can find small rocky patches that harbor some marine life. This makes it an interesting place to practice snorkeling and discover the small underwater fauna and flora. Don't expect reef
