Despite its modest size, Playa de la Caletilla gifts us with spectacular views, serene waters inviting for a swim, and a feeling of retreat that is hard to find in such urban beaches. How to Get to Playa de la Caletilla

Getting to Playa de la Caletilla is part of the experience in Nerja, a municipality that, despite its popularity, has managed to preserve its authenticity. Given its location in the heart of the town, accessibility is, in general, quite good, although with some particularities that are important to know.

On Foot from the Center of Nerja

The most common and, in our opinion, the most pleasant way to get to Caletilla is on foot. If we are in the center of Nerja, especially around the Balcón de Europa, access is direct. From the Balcón de Europa itself, we can descend some stairs that lead us directly to the beach. This access is picturesque and offers us impressive panoramic views as we approach the sand. It is a short and pleasant walk, ideal for enjoying the atmosphere of Nerja's streets before diving into the sea. For those staying at the Hotel Balcón de Europa, the beach is practically an extension of its facilities, with private and direct access for its guests, which adds an extra touch of comfort and exclusivity. It is important to note that, although access is simple, these stairs mean the beach does not have 'full accessibility' for people with very reduced mobility without assistance.

By Car and Parking

If we choose to come by car, we must consider that, being such a central beach, on-street parking in the immediate vicinity is very limited and often reserved for residents. Our recommendation is to use the paid underground car parks located in the center of Nerja. The closest and most convenient is the Parking del Balcón de Europa, located a few meters from the square. From there, it is a short walk to the stairs that descend to the beach. Although it involves a cost, it saves us the stress of looking for parking and allows us to enjoy the beach in complete tranquility. From the car park, the pedestrian access is simple and well signposted, although it always involves descending stairs.

Public Transport

Nerja has an urban bus service that connects the different areas of the municipality. If we are staying on the outskirts, we can take a bus that drops us off at one of the central stops, from where we can walk to the beach. There are also interurban bus lines that reach Nerja from other towns in the province of Malaga, such as Malaga city or Vélez-Málaga. The Nerja bus station is within walking distance of the center, although we can also opt for a taxi from there if we have a lot of luggage or prefer greater comfort. The ease of pedestrian access from any point in the center of Nerja makes the public transport option quite viable and comfortable for many visitors, always keeping in mind the final access stairs to the beach.

When we talk about Playa de la Caletilla, one of the aspects that captivates us the most is the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters. These elements are, without a doubt, the protagonists that define the bathing experience in this picturesque corner of the Nerja coast.

The Sand: A Golden and Fine Blanket

The sand of Caletilla is, in our opinion, one of its greatest attractions. It is a fine sand with a golden tone that contrasts wonderfully with the blue of the sea. Walking on it, we notice its softness underfoot, making it ideal for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out our towel and relaxing. Unlike other beaches in the area that may have pebbles or coarser sand, Caletilla offers us a homogeneous and pleasant surface. Although it is a small beach, the quality of its sand contributes to that feeling of comfort and well-being we seek when visiting a beach.

At the ends of the beach, especially near the rocks that delimit it and separate it from neighboring coves, we can find small areas with some gravel or small stones, but the central and main part of the beach is predominantly fine sand. This characteristic is highly appreciated by families, as it facilitates play and the safety of children, allowing them to enjoy without worrying about the discomfort of an irregular surface.

The Water: Crystal Clear and Serene

The waters of Playa de la Caletilla are, simply, spectacular. They are famous for their transparency and their turquoise hue, which immediately invites us to take a dip.
