However, if we venture a bit further south to the beautiful town of Sitges, we discover gems like Playa de la Barra. This beach is undoubtedly one of our favorites for those seeking the perfect combination of a vibrant urban setting and the serenity of calm waters.

Playa de la Barra is located at the western end of Sitges' promenade, and its orientation and configuration make it ideal for enjoying sunny days without the large crowds we sometimes find in other areas. It's a beach that breathes an air of calm, perfect for escaping the daily hustle and immersing yourself in the Mediterranean essence. Its name comes from the 'barra' or breakwater that protects it, creating a natural pool of serene waters that makes it especially attractive for families and relaxation lovers. From the moment we step onto its sand, we feel a special connection with this corner of the Garraf coast.

How to Get to Playa de la Barra

Getting to Playa de la Barra is relatively easy, which adds to its appeal. If we're coming from Barcelona, the most comfortable and eco-friendly way is to take the commuter train (R2 Sud line) to Sitges station. From there, a pleasant 15-20 minute walk along the promenade, heading west, will take us directly to the beach. The walk is a delight, with sea views and the impressive modernist houses that characterize Sitges.

By Car

If we choose to drive, from Barcelona, the C-32 is the main highway that connects us to Sitges in about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Once in Sitges, the beach is accessible from the Aiguadolç area or from the town center. Parking can be a challenge during high season, as nearby parking lots tend to fill up quickly. However, there are paid parking zones (blue zone) on adjacent streets and some underground parking lots in the center of Sitges, from where we can walk or take a local bus to the beach. Our recommendation is to arrive early, especially on summer weekends, to secure a good spot.

By Local Public Transport

Within Sitges, several urban bus lines connect different areas of the municipality with the center and the beaches. We can check local schedules and routes to get there comfortably if we're staying in an area further from the center. The general accessibility of Sitges and its well-developed infrastructure make visiting Playa de la Barra very easy.

The Sand and Water

Playa de la Barra wins us over, first and foremost, with its fine, golden sand. It's the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot, build sandcastles with the kids, or simply lay out a towel and enjoy the sun. The texture is very pleasant, without annoying stones, making it perfect for play and relaxation.

As for the water, it's one of its biggest attractions. The waters of Playa de la Barra are generally very calm and shallow near the shore, thanks to the protection offered by the breakwater. This creates a kind of natural pool, ideal for children to splash around safely and for adults to relax without worrying about big waves. The water clarity is remarkable, and on sunny days we can easily see the seabed. The temperature is usually pleasant during the summer months, inviting long, refreshing swims.
