How to Get to Playa de Kourouta

Getting to Playa de Kourouta is relatively straightforward, which contributes to its popularity and accessibility for travelers from everywhere. We recommend planning the trip in advance to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience, especially if traveling during the peak summer season. The beach is located on the western coast of the Peloponnese, in the prefecture of Elis, a short distance from the city of Pyrgos, an important administrative and commercial center of the region.

By Car

For us, the most comfortable and flexible option to get to Kourouta is, without a doubt, by car. From Athens, the journey takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, covering a distance of about 280-300 kilometers. The main route involves taking the Olympia Odos highway (A8) towards Patras and then continuing on the national road 9 (E55) south, towards Pyrgos. Once in Pyrgos, Playa de Kourouta is only about 10-15 kilometers to the west, well signposted. The road leading to the beach is easily accessible and in good condition, making the journey easy even for those unfamiliar with driving in Greece. Parking is plentiful near the beach, with designated areas and, in some cases, parking managed by the beach bars and hotels themselves. It is a significant advantage for visitors, as it avoids the stress of searching for parking.

By Public Transport

If we prefer not to drive, public transport is a viable alternative. The city of Pyrgos has a bus station (KTEL) offering regular connections to Athens, Patras, and other important cities in the Peloponnese. Once in Pyrgos, we can take a local bus or a taxi to Playa de Kourouta. Local buses connecting Pyrgos with Kourouta operate quite frequently during the summer months, although their schedules may be more limited in the off-season. Taxis are a faster and more direct option, though logically more expensive. For those arriving from abroad, the nearest airport is Kalamata International Airport (KLX), about 1 hour and 45 minutes by car, or Athens International Airport (ATH), from where you can continue by car or bus to Pyrgos and then to the beach. The good connection of this beach in Elis (Peloponnese) makes it very accessible.

Given its expanse, we always find a spot to spread our towels, even on the busiest summer days. The beach is entirely of ground type: sand, ensuring constant comfort from the shore into the sea.
