How to Get to Playa de Kalanka Bay

Getting to Playa de Kalanka Bay is part of the adventure, and although it's not the easiest access, the effort is richly rewarded. We always recommend renting a car to explore Malta, as it gives us the freedom to move at our own pace and discover corners like this one. From the center of Marsaxlokk, the drive is relatively short, about 5 to 10 minutes, following signs towards the south coast. The roads are good, although as we get closer to the bay, they can become a bit narrower and more rural, already immersing us in the natural atmosphere of the area.

Directions and Parking

Once we approach the Kalanka area, we'll find an informal parking area at the top of the cliffs. It's not a supervised or paved parking lot, but rather an open space where visitors usually leave their vehicles. From there, access to the cove is on foot, via a path that descends down the rocky slope. This path, although not excessively long, requires a bit of caution, especially if we're carrying beach gear or with small children. We advise wearing comfortable and secure footwear, like sneakers or water shoes, instead of flip-flops, to avoid slipping.

Public Transport and Alternatives

If we prefer not to drive, public transport in Malta is an option, although it may not leave us directly at the cove. We can take a bus to Marsaxlokk and from there, the best option would be a taxi or walking. The walk from the town to Kalanka Bay is approximately 30 to 40 minutes, offering panoramic views of the coastal landscape, but it can be exhausting under the Maltese sun. For us, the convenience of our own car or an occasional taxi is the best way to ensure a hassle-free visit to this beautiful Marsaxlokk beach.

The feeling of floating in these pristine waters is one of the most relaxing experiences we can have in Malta.
