Located in the Churriana district, very close to the airport, it is the westernmost beach of the capital and stretches for a kilometer and a half of coastline, offering a generous space for everyone's enjoyment.

When we think of Malaga beaches, images of fine sand and bustling beach bars often come to mind. Playa de Guadalmar does not disappoint in that sense, but adds an extra feature that sets it apart: it is the only beach in the city with an officially designated dog-friendly section. This makes it an ideal destination not only for families and couples seeking relaxation, but also for those who wish to share their holidays with their faithful four-legged friends. Its proximity to the Guadalhorce River Mouth Natural Area also gives it a more natural and less urbanized feel than other beaches in the capital, inviting us to connect with nature in a special way.

How to Get to Playa de Guadalmar

Getting to Playa de Guadalmar is relatively easy, especially if you're coming by car or arriving at Malaga Airport. Its strategic location, right next to the airport, makes it very accessible. If you choose to drive, you'll find several parking areas, although in high season it can be a bit more challenging. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. From the center of Malaga, the drive usually takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic.

For those who prefer public transport, there are urban bus lines connecting the center of Malaga with the Guadalmar area. Line 5 (Alameda Principal - Guadalmar) will drop you off near the beach, although you'll have to walk a bit. It's a comfortable and economical option if you don't want to worry about parking. If you arrive by taxi or ride-hailing service, the fare from the center or the airport will be quite short and affordable, making it a very practical alternative for those seeking comfort.

The Sand and Water

When you step onto Playa de Guadalmar, you'll notice that its sand is dark in tone and has a mixed texture, tending to be coarse in some areas, but not uncomfortable. It's not a beach with big waves, which contributes to that feeling of calm and safety that we value so much. The water temperature is typical of the Mediterranean, refreshing in summer and cooler in spring and autumn, but always inviting. We love the feeling of immersing ourselves in its waters and letting ourselves be carried away by the serenity of the surroundings, forgetting the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.

However, keep in mind that this is when visitor numbers are highest.

For us, spring (April, May) and early autumn (September, October) are magical times to visit. The climate is mild, temperatures are pleasant for sunbathing and swimming, and the beach is much less crowded. You can enjoy the tranquility, take long walks, and feel like you have the beach almost to yourselves. Even in winter, if the day is sunny, it's a wonderful place for a walk and to breathe fresh air, although swimming is only for the bravest.
