How to Get to Playa de Glystra

Getting to Playa de Glystra is relatively straightforward, although we highly recommend renting a car to enjoy total freedom and explore the island at your own pace. From the capital, Rhodes Town, the journey takes approximately one hour and twenty minutes (about 60-70 km) heading south, following the coastal road that passes through towns like Faliraki and Lindos. It's a scenic trip that will allow you to admire the island's diverse landscapes.

From Rhodes Town and the Airport

If you arrive at Rhodes International Airport (RHO), the distance to Glystra is similar, and car rental is the most practical option. There are several rental companies available at the airport. From Rhodes Town, you can take the main road heading to the south of the island. Signage for Kiotari or Lardos will guide you, and the turnoff to Glystra is well-marked before reaching Kiotari. There is ample free Parking right behind the beach, which is a great advantage.

Public Transport

Although a car is ideal, it is also possible to get there by bus. The bus line connecting Rhodes Town with the south of the island (for example, to Kiotari or Gennadi) will drop you off on the main road, from where you would have to walk a short distance to the beach. However, schedules can be limited, especially outside the high season, and the comfort of your own vehicle is incomparable for accessing this hidden gem.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that will captivate you when you set foot on Playa de Glystra is its spectacular sand. We're talking about fine sand, of a soft golden hue that shines under the Aegean sun. It's incredibly pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles, or simply lying down and relaxing. Unlike other Rhodes beaches that may have pebbles or rocks, the softness of the sand predominates here, making it very comfortable for everyone.

The waters of Glystra are simply crystal clear, with shades ranging from light turquoise to deep blue. We always advise avoiding the peak of summer if you're looking for tranquility and more affordable prices, although if heat and lively atmosphere are your thing, July and August also have their charm.

Spring and Autumn: The Perfect Choice

• Late spring (May and early June): This is, for us, the ideal time. The weather is warm and sunny, but not excessively hot. The water temperatures are pleasant for swimming, and the island is in full bloom, offering green and vibrant landscapes. Furthermore, the crowds are smaller, allowing you to enjoy the beach with more space and serenity. Flight and accommodation prices are usually more attractive.
