Introduction
As beach tourism experts and Mediterranean lovers, we are always searching for special corners that combine natural beauty, tranquility, and authenticity. Playa de Gennadi, located on the sunny island of Rhodes, Greece, is undoubtedly one of those magical places. South of the capital, this extensive coastal gem offers us a different experience from the crowded northern beaches. Here, time seems to slow down, inviting us to disconnect and immerse ourselves in the essence of island life.
Imagine a canvas where the intense blue of the Aegean merges with a coast dotted with pebbles and sand, and where the horizon stretches uninterrupted. Playa de Gennadi is not just a destination; it is a promise of serenity and unforgettable moments under the Greek sun. It is a place that calls us to explore its corners, to enjoy its crystal-clear waters, and to be carried away by the gentle murmur of the waves. It is, in short, one of those Rhodes beaches that leaves us wanting to return.
How to Get to Playa de Gennadi
Getting to Playa de Gennadi is part of the adventure and quite straightforward. It is located on the southeastern coast of Rhodes, about 60-70 kilometers from the capital and Rhodes International Airport-Diagoras (RHO).
By Rental Car
For us, renting a car is the most recommended option. It gives us the freedom to explore the island and reach Playa de Gennadi at our own pace. From Rhodes Town or the airport, we will take the main coastal road heading south. The journey is scenic and well-signposted. In the village of Gennadi, we will find clear signs to the beach. Parking is easy to find along the coastal road or near the beach bars.
By Bus
If we prefer not to drive, public transport is an alternative. There are regular buses from Rhodes Town to the village of Gennadi. However, frequencies may be lower in the low season, and we might need to walk a bit from the village to the beach. We advise checking the updated KTEL Rhodes schedules.
The Sand and Water
Playa de Gennadi surprises us with its distinctive character: a mix of coarse sand and fine pebbles stretching for several kilometers. This combination not only gives it a unique natural appearance but also ensures the water remains incredibly clear, as the sand is not easily suspended.
Water Clarity and Temperature
The Aegean waters at Playa de Gennadi are famous for their transparency, allowing us to see the seabed even at some depth. They are perfect for swimming and diving, offering excellent visibility for snorkeling. In summer (June to September), the water temperature is delightfully warm (23°C-27°C), a paradise for bathing lovers.
Comfort on the Shore
The presence of pebbles on the shore suggests using water shoes or sandals for greater comfort, especially for children. Once in the sea, the bottom is usually soft sand. The beach has a gentle slope, ideal for children to play safely. The mix of sand and pebbles also makes it easy to shake off the sand after a day in the sun.
Services and Facilities
Playa de Gennadi offers us both organized areas with full services and more wild, pristine sections. This duality allows us to choose the desired experience.

The best time to visit Playa de Gennadi depends on our preferences. Rhodes enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long, sunny summers and mild winters.
High Season (July and August)
The sun shines intensely (over 30°C), and the water is warmer. Although Gennadi is extensive and rarely gets overcrowded, we will notice more visitors. All services are in full operation. Ideal for guaranteed weather and a vibrant atmosphere.
Mid-Season (May, June, September, October)
For us, this is the golden time.- May and June: Very pleasant temperatures, strong but not scorching sun, and the water warms up. Lower tourist influx, greater tranquility, and competitive prices.
- September and October: Our favorite months. The sea is still perfect for swimming, mild temperatures, less intense sun, and fewer crowds. Ideal for total relaxation and exploring the island at a leisurely pace.
Low Season (November to April)
The beach and the island are quieter. Many services close. The weather is cooler and rainier, although with sunny days. Ideal for absolute peace, hiking, and low prices. Services on the beach are very limited and the water is cold.
