Upon arriving at Ganema, the first thing that captivates us is its expanse. This is not a tiny cove, but a generous stretch of coastline that unfolds before us, offering plenty of space even on the busiest days. How to Get to Playa de Ganema

Getting to Playa de Ganema is part of the adventure and charm of visiting a Greek island like Serifos. First, we must reach the island. The most common way is by ferry from the port of Piraeus in Athens. There are several options: conventional ferries, which take between 4.5 and 5.5 hours, and high-speed ferries, which can reduce the journey to about 2.5 or 3 hours. We always recommend booking tickets in advance, especially if traveling during the high season (July and August), as demand is considerable.

Once in Livadi, the main port of Serifos, we have several options to get to Ganema, which is located about 5-6 kilometers to the southwest. The road leading to the beach is paved and in good condition, which facilitates access. We can choose:

• Car or scooter rental: It is, in our opinion, the best option to explore the island at our own pace and discover its most hidden corners. In Livadi we will find several rental agencies.
• Taxi: Taxis are available at the port, and the trip to Ganema is relatively short and affordable.
• Local bus: During the high season, there are usually bus routes connecting Livadi with some of the most popular beaches, including Ganema. However, schedules can be limited, so we always advise checking them beforehand at the port or bus stop.
• On foot: For the more adventurous and hiking lovers, it is possible to walk from Livadi, although the path can be long under the summer sun and with some slopes. It is an option to enjoy the landscape, but perhaps not the most practical if we are carrying luggage or with children.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Ganema surprises us with its unique combination of sand and pebbles, a 'ground type' that classifies it as 'mixed'. This characteristic gives it a particular texture and a distinctive visual appeal. Walking along the shore, we notice the softness of the sand mixed with the presence of small pebbles polished by the sea, which shine under the sun. This mix is ideal for those who don't like excessively fine sand that sticks to everything, but also don't want an exclusively rocky beach. It is a perfect balance that allows us to enjoy comfort without losing the connection with the wilder nature.

But if something makes us fall in love with Ganema, it is the quality of its waters. They are, simply, spectacular. Their transparency is astonishing; we can see the seabed with exceptional clarity, which invites us to snorkel and discover underwater life. The color of the water ranges from a vibrant turquoise near the shore to a deep blue as we go further out, creating a chromatic gradient worthy of a postcard. Furthermore, the waters of Ganema are usually calm and shallow in its first few meters, making it a safe and very pleasant option for swimming, even for those who are not strong swimmers or for families with young children. The temperature of the Aegean Sea in summer is ideal, refreshing but warm, perfect for spending hours in and out of the water. Truly, the experience of immersing oneself in these crystal-clear waters is one of the greatest pleasures offered by this Serifos beach.

Services and Facilities

One of the wonders of Playa de Ganema is that, despite its beauty and popularity among connoisseurs, it has managed to maintain a perfect balance between organization and the preservation of its natural environment. Here we will not find large hotel complexes or an avalanche of services, but the essentials to enjoy a worry-free day at the beach, which contributes to its relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

Among the available services, we highlight:

• Chiringuitos: On the beach, or in its vicinity, we will find one or two chiringuitos or traditional tavernas. These establishments are true oases where we can taste delicious Greek food, from fresh salads and seafood to local Serifos dishes. They are perfect for a light lunch or a refreshing drink while admiring the sea. The quality of the food is usually excellent, with fresh ingredients and friendly, close service, something we always highly value.
• Sunbeds and umbrellas: The chiringuitos usually offer the possibility of renting umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds, allowing us to relax in the sun with all the comfort. This is especially useful in l
