This Sifnos beach is not just a beautiful stretch of coastline; it is the heart of a small village that still lives to the rhythm of its fishermen, with its small tavernas right on the beach serving the freshest fish and traditional island dishes. Its waters, protected by the bay, are extraordinarily calm and shallow, making it a perfect choice for families with young children or for anyone seeking a relaxing and safe swim. Here, the main concern is choosing which ice cream flavour to try or which book to read under the shade of a sun umbrella. How to Get to Playa de Faros

Getting to Playa de Faros is part of the adventure of discovering Sifnos, a wonderfully connected island that still retains its essence. First, we must get to the island of Sifnos, which is mainly done by ferry from the port of Piraeus in Athens. Journey times vary, from about 2.5-3 hours on a fast ferry to 5-6 hours on a conventional ferry. We always recommend booking tickets in advance, especially if travelling in high season (July and August), to secure a seat and avoid surprises.

Once in Sifnos, we will disembark at the port of Kamares. From there, we have several options to get to Faros, which is located on the southeast coast of the island, about 10-12 kilometres from Kamares and about 7-8 kilometres from Apollonia, the capital:

• ### Public Bus

Sifnos has a fairly efficient public bus system that connects the main villages and beaches. There are regular routes from Kamares to Apollonia and then to Faros. It is an economical option and allows us to enjoy the scenery without worrying about driving. Timetables are usually available at the bus stop at the port and at tourist offices. It is the most authentic way to get around the island, mingling with the locals.

• ### Taxi

At the port of Kamares, we will always find taxis waiting for the arrival of ferries. It is the most comfortable and fastest option, especially if we are travelling with a lot of luggage or with children. The journey to Faros is relatively short and the price, although higher than the bus, is reasonable for the comfort it offers. We can ask for the price before getting in to avoid misunderstandings, although Sifnos taxi drivers are usually very honest.

• ### Car or Motorbike Rental

For us, the ideal way to explore Sifnos and have total freedom to visit not only Playa de Faros but also the more secluded coves and inland villages, is to rent a car or a motorbike. There are several rental agencies in Kamares and Apollonia. A car will give us the flexibility to get to Faros and then venture into the surrounding area, while a motorbike is perfect for those looking for a more 'island-hopper' experience and don't mind the wind. The roads in Sifnos are generally good, although some can be narrow and winding, especially those leading to more remote beaches. Parking in Faros is limited, but there are usually designated areas at the entrance to the village, from where we can easily walk to the beach.

The Sand and the Water

Playa de Faros captivates us from the first moment with its perfect combination of sand and sea. The sand here is a soft golden hue, fine and pleasant to the touch, making it ideal for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out our towel and enjoying the sun. We won't find annoying pebbles or rocks at the water's edge, ensuring comfortable and safe access for everyone. It is sand that warms just right under the Greek sun, but always invites us to dive into the refreshing sea.

But if the sand is a delight, the water at the Sifnos beach of Faros is simply spectacular. The waters are incredibly clear, with shades ranging from pale turquoise near the shore to a deeper blue as we go further out. Visibility is excellent, allowing us to observe the small fish swimming at our feet without the need for snorkelling masks. We love the feeling of purity and the mild temperature of the water, which invites us to stay in it for hours.
