How to Get to Playa de Faneromeni

Getting to Playa de Faneromeni is a simple and picturesque adventure that is part of the visit's charm. The island of Salamina is the closest to the port of Piraeus, making it very accessible from Athens and its surroundings. We usually start our journey by taking a ferry or a small boat from the port of Perama, which is very close to Piraeus. The ferry ride is short, just about 15-20 minutes, and drops us off at Salamina's main port, known as Paloukia. During the crossing, we can enjoy the views of the Saronic Gulf and the silhouette of the approaching island, an excellent way to start disconnecting.

Once in Paloukia, we have several options to get to the beach. Playa de Faneromeni is located on the northwest side of the island, about 10-12 kilometers from the port. We recommend:

Renting a car is undoubtedly the most comfortable option and gives us the freedom to explore the island at our own pace. There are rental agencies in Salamina or, if we prefer, we can rent one on the mainland and bring it on the ferry. The journey to Faneromeni is direct and well-signposted, offering very pleasant rural and coastal landscapes.

At the port of Paloukia, we will always find taxis available. It's a quick and convenient option, especially if we're traveling in a group or with a lot of luggage. The cost is reasonable for the distance.

• ### Local Bus

There is a network of local buses connecting Paloukia with the main beaches and villages of the island. It's the most economical option and allows us to mingle with local life. The schedules are usually reliable, although it's advisable to check them in advance, especially outside the high season. The bus stop closest to the beach will leave us within a short walking distance.

This level of transparency is something we always look for in a beach, as it gives us a feeling of purity and cleanliness. Furthermore, and this is a crucial point for many families, the waters are usually very calm and shallow near the shore, making them perfect for young children and for those who don't feel comfortable in waters with strong waves. It's a safe place to swim and relax, where the sea embraces us gently.

The water temperature is another factor to highlight. During the summer months, from late May to early October, the sea maintains an ideal temperature for bathing, warm and refreshing at the same time. It's neither too cold nor excessively warm, but rather invites us to stay in it for hours, enjoying one dip after another. The combination of fine sand and serene, transparent waters makes Faneromeni an exceptional beach for the enjoyment of all the senses, a true oasis of calm and natural beauty on the island of Salamina.
