How to get to Playa de Es Caragol

Getting to Playa de Es Caragol is part of the adventure and what helps maintain its pristine character. There is no direct road that takes us right to the shore, and that is, in our opinion, a point in its favor. The most common and recommended way to get there is via a walk from the Cap Salines Lighthouse.

To begin our expedition, we must drive to the Cap Salines Lighthouse. There is a parking area (often paid during high season) where we can leave the vehicle. Once there, the lighthouse will serve as our starting point. From the lighthouse, we will take a path that runs along the coast to the west. This path, approximately 1.5 to 2 kilometers, is relatively flat and easy to follow, but we recommend wearing comfortable footwear, such as sneakers, as it is not a walk on asphalt but on natural terrain, sometimes rocky and other times sandy. The walk will take us between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on our pace. During the journey, we can already enjoy the sea views and the local flora and fauna, making the trip a charming prelude to what awaits us.

Tips for the journey

• Footwear: It is essential to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Let's forget about flip-flops for the walk.
• Water and supplies: There are no shops or 'chiringuitos' (beach bars) on the beach, so it is vital to bring enough water, some food or a picnic, and anything else we need for our stay.
• Sun protection: The path and the beach are completely exposed to the sun, so good sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are essential.
• Backpack: A backpack will allow us to carry our belongings comfortably and have our hands free to enjoy the landscape.
• Respect for the environment: Let's remember we are in a protected natural area. Let's take all our trash back with us and leave the beach as we found it.

The sand and the water

The sand of Playa de Es Caragol is, simply, spectacular. We are faced with a beach of fine sand, of an almost dazzling white that contrasts wonderfully with the intense blue of the sea. This sand, soft to the touch and perfect for lying down and relaxing, stretches for about 500 meters, offering us ample space to find our ideal spot, even on busier days.

But if the sand is impressive, the water is, if possible, even more captivating. The waters of Es Caragol are famous for their incredible clarity and turquoise hue. They are crystal-clear waters, shallow near the shore, making them ideal for a calm and refreshing swim. The visibility is excellent, inviting us to explore the seabed with a snorkel mask. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is very pleasant, perfect for long dips that will make us forget the heat.

The type of seabed in the swimming area is predominantly sandy, which makes entering the sea easy and very comfortable for all bathers. There are no annoying rocks or abundant seaweed in the main swimming area, which contributes to that tropical paradise feeling. The combination of fine sand and crystal-clear waters creates an idyllic landscape that invites us to relax and enjoy without worries.

Services and facilities

It is essential to understand that Playa de Es Caragol is a wild and virgin beach, and precisely there lies a large part of its charm. This characteristic implies an almost total absence of services and facilities directly on the sand. If we are looking for 'chiringuitos', showers, lifeguards, umbrella or sunbed rentals, or public toilets, this is not our beach. And, honestly, we celebrate it, as this lack of infrastructure is what allows the environment to remain in its purest and most natural state.

What we will not find

• Chiringuitos or restaurants: There is nowhere to buy food or drink, so we must bring everything we need for the day.
• Showers or toilets: There are no facilities to rinse off the salt water or to use the restroom. Nature is our only resource, and always with the utmost respect.
• Umbrella and sunbed rentals: The beach does not have these types of services. If we want shade, we must bring our own umbrella.
• Lifeguard service: Being a natural beach with more complicated access, there is usually no official lifeguard service. We must be extremely cautious when swimming, especially if we are with children.
