How to Get to Playa de Ermioni

Getting to Playa de Ermioni is part of the adventure and, fortunately, there are various options to suit different travel preferences. Located in the Argolida region of the Peloponnese, access is relatively straightforward, though it requires a bit of planning for those coming from outside Greece or Athens.

From Athens and Eleftherios Venizelos Airport

The most common and comfortable way to get to Ermioni from Athens is by car. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on traffic and the chosen route. We recommend taking the national road E94/A8 towards Corinth and then the E65/A7 towards Nafplio, before turning off towards Ermioni. The drive is picturesque and offers us the opportunity to admire the rural beauty of the Peloponnese. Having a car will give us the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace, something we consider essential to make the most of a visit to this Argolida (Peloponnese) beach.

For those who prefer not to drive, there are intercity bus services (KTEL) connecting Athens with Ermioni. Buses depart from Kifissos station in Athens and the trip can take around 3 to 4 hours, including stops. It is an economical option and allows us to relax while enjoying the scenery. Furthermore, from Athens airport, we can take an X93 bus to Kifissos station or a suburban train to Larissis station and then a taxi to Kifissos to catch the bus to Ermioni.

Another very popular alternative, especially in the summer months, is the ferry or 'flying dolphins' (hydrofoils) from the port of Piraeus in Athens. These vessels take us directly to Ermioni in approximately 2 hours, offering a pleasant crossing of the Saronic Gulf. It is a fantastic option if we want to avoid traffic and enjoy sea views. This route is especially convenient if we also plan to visit the nearby islands of Hydra or Spetses, as Ermioni is a key connection point.

Local Access and Parking

Once in Ermioni, Playa de Ermioni is easily accessible on foot from the town center. Most accommodations are within a short walking distance of the promenade and bathing areas. For those arriving by car, finding parking can be a bit more challenging in high season, but there are generally street parking options or small public parking lots around the harbor and the beach. We always advise arriving early to secure a good spot, especially if you visit during July or August.

The Sand and Water

When we talk about Playa de Ermioni, it is essential to highlight its distinctive features: a pebble seabed and waters of astonishing clarity. This is not the typical fine-sand beach many are accustomed to, and that is precisely what gives it part of its charm and uniqueness among the Greece beaches.

Among the pebbles, we will often find a mixture of sand, which classifies the sand type as 'mixed'. This combination creates a unique texture and a visually interesting landscape, different from purely sandy beaches. The absence of fine sand means the water remains exceptionally clear, without the turbidity sometimes associated with sandy beaches.
