The island is connected to the Greek mainland via ferry routes from the port of Piraeus in Athens, although this option is usually longer and less frequent. The most common and convenient connections depart from the Peloponnese peninsula. The ports of Piraeus (Athens), Neapoli Voion (Laconia), and Gythio (Laconia) are the main departure points. We highly recommend the route from Neapoli Voion, as it is the shortest, with journeys typically lasting around 1 hour and 15 minutes. The ferries operating on this route are modern and comfortable, offering space for vehicles, which is almost indispensable for exploring the island freely. Once the ferry docks at the port of Diakofti, the beach is literally a stone's throw away. It is one of those rare occasions where the final destination is visible and accessible almost immediately upon disembarking, filling us with excitement after the journey.

From Other Parts of Kythira

If you are already on Kythira and wish to visit Playa de Diakofti from another location on the island, renting a vehicle is undoubtedly the most practical and recommended option. The public transport infrastructure on Kythira is limited, and relying on taxis can be costly if you plan to explore extensively. We always advise renting a car, a motorbike, or even a quad upon arrival at the island's port or airport. This will give you the freedom to move at your own pace and discover not only Diakofti but also many other hidden corners of Kythira. The island's roads are generally good, although some can be narrow and winding, especially those leading to more secluded beaches. From Chora, the capital, or Kapsali, the trip to Diakofti takes approximately 30-40 minutes by car, offering picturesque landscapes along the way that make the journey part of the experience.
