How to Get to Playa de Desimi

Getting to Playa de Desimi is part of the adventure, and although the road can be a bit winding, the rewards at the end are more than gratifying. This beach is located on the Geni peninsula, on Lefkada's east coast, not far from the popular town of Nidri. From Nidri, the drive takes about 10-15 minutes, following the road that borders Vlycho Bay and heads into the peninsula.

By Car

For us, the most comfortable and flexible option to get to Desimi is by car. From Lefkada Town, the journey takes about 40 minutes. We must take the main road south, towards Nidri. Once in Nidri, we follow the signs towards Vlycho and then towards Geni. The road narrows a bit as we approach the beach, with some sharp curves and descents that will take us directly to the shore. There is a parking area, mostly free, near the tavernas, although in high season it can fill up quickly. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot and enjoy the morning tranquility of the beach.

By Boat or Kayak

For the more adventurous, reaching Desimi by sea is a fantastic experience. Located in a protected bay, the waters are usually very calm, making it ideal to access by small boats, kayaks, or paddleboards. Many visitors staying in the vicinity of Vlycho or Nidri rent kayaks and paddle to Desimi, exploring the small sea caves that dot the coastline. This is a wonderful way to appreciate the beauty of Lefkada's coast from a different perspective and discover hidden coves along the way. Playa de Desimi is an excellent starting point for these coastal explorations.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive features of Playa de Desimi is its composition. Unlike some of the famous white sand beaches of western Lefkada, Desimi welcomes us with a charming mix of pebbles and fine gravel. This means that while it may not be the softest sand to lay a towel directly on, the waters are exceptionally clear and take on breathtaking shades of turquoise and emerald. The pebbles help keep the water incredibly transparent, as sand isn't stirred up by the movement of the waves.

The Sand

When stepping onto Playa de Desimi, we notice the ground is composed mainly of small and medium-sized pebbles, mixed with some coarser sand. We highly recommend bringing water shoes or aqua socks, as they will make entering and exiting the sea much easier and make walking along the shore much more comfortable. Despite not being a fine sand beach, the texture of the pebbles is pleasant underfoot and contributes to the natural, unspoiled character of this corner of Lefkada.

The Water

But it's in the water where Playa de Desimi truly shines. The waters are of astonishing clarity, with visibility that allows us to see the seabed even at some depth. They are calm, shallow at the shore, and gradually get deeper, making them perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The water temperature is usually very pleasant during the summer months, inviting long swims and enjoyment of the coolness of the Ionian Sea. The absence of large waves, thanks to its protected location, makes it an ideal spot for families with young children and for those seeking a relaxing swim without worries. It is, without a doubt, one of the Greece beaches where the water quality is exceptional.

Services and Facilities

Although Playa de Desimi maintains a natural and less developed atmosphere than other more touristy beaches, it offers a range of services and facilities that ensure a comfortable and pleasant visit. We always value finding a balance between natural beauty and comfort, and Desimi achieves this perfectly.

Food and Drink

On the beach itself, we find a couple of traditional tavernas serving delicious Greek food, especially fresh seafood. It's a true delight to be able to enjoy a lunch with sea views, savoring local specialties like grilled octopus, Greek salads, or the day's fresh fish.
