How to Get to Playa de Costa Daurada
Getting to Playa de Costa Daurada in Roda de Berà is relatively straightforward, whether you come by car, public transport, or even by bicycle. Its strategic location on the Costa Daurada makes it very accessible from different points in Catalonia and the rest of Spain.
By Car
For us, the car is usually the most comfortable option, especially if we have luggage or are traveling with children. The Roda de Berà beach is very well connected by road:
- From Barcelona: We take the AP-7 motorway heading south (towards Valencia). The most convenient exit is usually number 32 (El Vendrell/Coma-ruga/Roda de Berà). Once off the motorway, we follow the signs to Roda de Berà and the beach area. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on traffic.
- From Tarragona: Access is even quicker. We can choose between the N-340 or the AP-7. If we choose the motorway, the exit is the same as above. Via the N-340, the route is more picturesque, following the coastline and passing through several coastal towns. The estimated time is about 20-30 minutes.
- From Valencia: We take the AP-7 motorway heading north (towards Barcelona) and exit 32. The journey is longer, about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
By Public Transport
If we prefer not to drive, public transport is a viable alternative:
- Train: The nearest train station is Roda de Barà (not Roda de Berà, although they share part of the name). However, this station is a bit inland and may require a taxi or local bus to reach the beach. An option with more services and connections is Sant Vicenç de Calders station, a major railway hub from where we can take a taxi or a regular bus line to get to the coast.
- Bus: Several intercity bus lines connect Roda de Berà with nearby towns and cities like Tarragona or El Vendrell. It's advisable to check the timetables of local bus companies, such as Autocars Plana, as frequencies can vary depending on the season.
By Bicycle
For cycling enthusiasts, Playa de Costa Daurada is accessible via cycle paths connecting to other coastal towns. It's a fantastic way to enjoy the landscape and stay active, although we always recommend caution with traffic and weather conditions.
The Sand and the Water
One of the main attractions of Playa de Costa Daurada is, without a doubt, its sand and the quality of its waters. We were captivated from the first moment by the softness and color of its sand, which is the hallmark of this part of the Tarragona coastline.
The Sand: A Golden Mantle
The sand of the Roda de Berà beach is fine and of an intense golden hue, hence the name Costa Daurada. It's incredibly pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot and feeling it slip between your toes. Its fine grain makes it excellent material for the little ones to let their imagination run wild building castles and ephemeral sculptures. Furthermore, being so fine, it heats up quickly under the sun, inviting us to spread out our towel and enjoy a restorative sunbath.
We were pleasantly surprised that, despite its popularity, the sand remains very clean. The beach maintenance staff does commendable work so that bathers always find an impeccable environment. This is a key factor contributing to this beach holding the Blue Flag, an award that certifies the quality of its waters, services, and, of course, its sand.
The Water: A Mirror of Tranquility
The waters of Playa de Costa Daurada are a true delight. They are characterized by being:
