How to Get to Playa de Cherronisos

Getting to Playa de Cherronisos is part of the adventure and charm of this remote destination. The island of Sifnos is accessible by ferry from the port of Piraeus in Athens, as well as from other Cycladic islands. Once in Sifnos, you generally arrive at the port of Kamares. From there, or from the capital, Apollonia, the journey to Cherronisos requires a bit more effort, but every kilometer is worth it.

From the Port of Kamares

Upon disembarking in Kamares, we usually opt to rent a vehicle, either a car or a motorbike. This is undoubtedly the most comfortable and practical option for exploring the island at our own pace and accessing places like Cherronisos, located at the northern tip. The road from Kamares to Apollonia is good, and from Apollonia, the route to Cherronisos becomes more winding and picturesque, snaking through mountainous landscapes and offering spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. The total journey from Kamares can take about 30-40 minutes.

From Apollonia

If we are staying in Apollonia, the nerve center of the island, the trip to Playa de Cherronisos is approximately 20-25 minutes by car or motorbike. Signage is generally clear, although it is advisable to have a map or GPS on hand. The road, although paved, can be narrow in some sections and requires caution, especially on curves. We enjoy the scenery during the journey, which offers us an authentic view of Sifnos's geography.

Public Transport

There is a public bus service in Sifnos that connects the main towns. However, routes to Cherronisos are less frequent, especially outside the high season. While there are buses that reach the village, the schedules can be limited, which could reduce our flexibility. For those who prefer not to drive, a taxi from Apollonia is an option, though more expensive. We always recommend the autonomy of your own vehicle to be able to enjoy the Sifnos beach and its surroundings without rush.

Beach Access

Once we arrive at the village of Cherronisos, access to the beach is very simple. The road practically ends at the bay, where we will find an informal parking area. From there, the sand is just a few steps away, allowing us to quickly immerse ourselves in the relaxing atmosphere of this paradisiacal corner. It is important to remember that, being a small village, parking space may be limited on busier days, although Cherronisos rarely feels crowded.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Cherronisos surprises us with a charming mix of sand and small pebbles. It is not a beach of uniformly fine, golden sand, but rather presents a mixed sand type, where coarser sand intertwines with small stones polished by the sea. This mixed soil type gives it a rustic and natural character that we greatly value, as it is true to the geology of the Cyclades. Walking barefoot along the shore is a pleasant experience, although in some areas we can feel the presence of the pebbles, which adds an authentic touch.

The Color and Clarity of the Water

What truly captivates us about Playa de Cherronisos is its waters. They are of astonishing clarity, with hues ranging from a translucent emerald green near the shore to an intense turquoise blue in the deeper part of the bay. The natural protection offered by the surrounding rock formations turns the bay into a natural swimming pool, where waves are minimal and the water always remains calm. This characteristic makes it especially attractive to us, who seek a serene place to swim and relax.
