How to Get to Playa de Castell de Ferro

Getting to Playa de Castell de Ferro is easier than it seems, and part of its charm lies precisely in that feeling of discovering a treasure. If we're coming from Málaga or Almería, the A-7 highway (Mediterranean Highway) is our main ally. We should take exit 356 towards Castell de Ferro/Gualchos. Once we leave the highway, the road leads us directly to the heart of the village, where the beach stretches along its promenade.

By Car

For us, the car is the most comfortable option to get to Castell de Ferro, as it gives us total freedom to explore the surroundings. The signage is clear and access is easy. Once in the village, you'll find parking areas, both on the promenade itself and on adjacent streets. It's true that in high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot right on the front line, but there are always options within walking distance. We recommend arriving early if you want to secure a good spot.

By Public Transport

Although public transport is an option, it's less frequent than in other larger areas. There are bus lines connecting Castell de Ferro with Motril and other nearby municipalities on the Tropical Coast. However, schedules can be limited, especially outside the summer season. If you choose this route, we advise you to check the schedules of local bus companies (like Alsa) in advance to plan your trip without surprises.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Castell de Ferro offers us a very particular tactile and visual experience regarding its surface. It's not the typical fine golden sand beach we might be used to seeing in postcards, and precisely there lies part of its uniqueness and appeal. Here, the ground is predominantly mixed, composed of a combination of pebbles and coarse sand.

Walking along the shore, we'll notice the presence of pebbles polished by the sea, of different sizes and shades, mixed with darker, coarser sand.
